Picking out a truggy

Looking to do my first conversion. I have decided I want a truggy, but with so many different ones, I'm having some trouble choosing one. I was looking at a used Losi 8ight-t (1.0?), Multilator, Thunder tiger St-1, and Jammin X1 CRT. Looking for something that is fairly popular in the conversion world so that I will be able to get help later on if I need it. (gearing, bodies, tires, etc). I am on a fairly low budget. I have 2 2s 3300 mah 25C packs that I was planning on using. Just looking for some advise as to what truggies give the most bang for their buck, which were good for conversions, etc. I was looking some where near $200-$250 new/used. I could get a ST-1 for $300, and after selling the engine, that would put me at around $200 for a brand new roller. Haven't decided on the power system yet, would love to have a MMM, but not enough cash for that. Probably a budget setup (8xl, or something similar).

Let me know your guy's take.

Thanks,
Travis

Look at what your lhs carries for parts support, that may help your decision. 8ight-T is a popular choice as is the CRT. Most likely the Losi will be better supported at the lhs as it is a more popular brand. Nothing worse than having to wait a week+ because you broke an arm or shock tower.

Thanks for the fast reply.

my lhs really doesn't carry parts for any of them. they really only stock Traxxas. but i don't mind waiting a week. There was some shop that was like an hour away from my house that i can order from. Part support is a big deal for me, and it's one of the disadvantages of getting a truggy for me. My LHS does carry some Losi though, but that's the most expensive one of the bunch? can i really find a nice one for under $250? I've seen some new race rollers on E-bay for $320.

oh and I should have mentioned, I'm a basher, not a racer, if that makes a difference.

Shouldn't be hard to find a decent used roller for under $250. You can get a brand new RTR with Spektrum DX2 radio for $500. As long as your lhs carries losi they can get parts for an 8-T. Even if they don't normally stock them, they may be able to get them really quick. Also if you go there often enough and make friends you may be able to get them to stock some common parts. 1/8 is only getting bigger so the demand will be there eventually.

You can get a brand new Losi 8T 1.0 for $299. A number of online retailers have been running the sale on 8/8T 1.0 vehicles to make room for the new 2.0 models.

That is for the race roller, right? If the 8ight-t is a good, reliable, durable buggy, that will be my plan. Hope I can get my funds before they sale out of them?

Got any links to websites that are having that $299 special? The best I found was around $320 (E-bay).

Amain just raised the price of the Losi 8T race roller to $329:

Sweet! Wonder if any place sells them for $300 still? Are the parts basically the same on the new/old one? For example, my front shock tower breaks. I can just buy the new shock tower and it will work on my 8ight-t right?

I say 8T also .. cheap now I paid $500 for it now its what $329 from Georges link, worth every penny. I can't break it. I launch it off skate board ramps and it wont even break an a-arm.

Mike has the good stuff, but you need a screw or some odd part losipartswarehouse
