High C rate Charge Lipo's
 

So iv been seeing more and more 2c and 5c charge rate batteries out there. Im using the Hyperion 0606i Charger and i cnat gind anything that gives me an option to change the charge rate.

Anyone know if i can? or if the charger will auto set the charge rate to the higher level?

Charge rate is adjustable upto the maximum power output of the charger- 5amps I believe for your one. If you are trying to charge a 5000mah lipo for example, you wont be able to excede a 1c charge rate regardless as for a 5000mah lipo, 5amps = 1c. The built in powersupply is also a limting factor, as for a 50watt item like yours, that means trying to do a 5amp charge on a 4s lipo will result in the charge rate dropping in order to for it to not excede the maximum power output rating, example:

50watts = 14.8v x 3.7amps, so you only get less than 1c charge rate, regardless of how high you try to set it.

Lipos that can be charged at 2c or 5c need a charger and power supply much much more powerful than what is easily available. For example, to do a 5c charge on a 4s 5000mah lipo:

14.8v x 25amps (5c) = 370 watts + some overhead to allow for losses and 90% efficiency say. Have fun finding a charger and powersupply that can push that kinda power without it costing both your kidneys and your liver....

the hyperion supports a 2C charge rate.
 

the hyperion supports a 2C charge rate. there is a setting to adjust to 2C. the other way is to tell it that its a 10000ma batt and charge it at the 10amp max. I have the hyperion duo and can charge 2 batteries at 10 amps each - awesome. you do need at least 25amp Powersupply. I have a 30amp.

the key 2 things being 6amp max charge rate and 50watt power output.

Thus, a 2c charge rate would be impossible with that charger, unless you were charging 2s 3000mah lipos...

The 0610i can do 10 amps and 250w and its $10 more. I have it and it's awsome. You will need an external power supply, but I bet you could find an xbox 360 power supply on ebay for $30 and modify the plug. They are 12 volts rated for 16.5 amps, or something slightly less than that depending on the version/age.
