Steel or Alum.?
Well, I've killed another traxxas delrin or whatever idler gear. Now my 2 questions:
1. The mesh in the gearbox doesn't seem great, are there any others with better mesh? 2. Are there any titanuim or stronger idler gears i could get...without paying an arm and leg? |
The TRX steel ones are fine. I've had mine in there since I broke the stock delrin gear ages ago.
|
so the new steel ones are tougher? thanks
|
Whatever one they put in the VXL tranny is the same one I have (and have had). Just shim the gears so they line up properly and have the largest contact area possible between them.

Info???
How about a little detail here. What exactly are you talking about? If I was to assume that you are talking about the E-Maxx tranny, which one the 3905 or 3906? I have the 3906 (old) E-Maxx setups. I have several different versions of steel idler gears in them. I have UE idlers in one, RCM steel idlers in another, and TRX steel idlers in the other ones. All of them work just fine. I also have aluminum 1st & 2nd gearing in all of them as well for better wear and tear and all are in aluminum tranny cases. I use blue Aqua "Speed Grease" in each of them to keep the wear down even more, and it really makes things run smoother and quieter. Life has never been so good. If you are not talking about the E-Maxx trannys, then disreguard all of this.

Yeah, that's kinda scaring! :gasp: Just put a couple randon things down and what's_nitro knows what we talking about. I was guessing e-maxx also. |
Whats nitro is talking about a pede/rustler vxl tranny.
Not sure what pedeboi is talking about (he is a picnic short of a sandwich) If he is talking about a pede tranny the vxl setup is the way to go. For high hp setups the flm case with traxxas vxl gears is the hot ticket. |
lol, not sure about that sandwich comment... thanks??? anyways, yup I'm talking about the pede tranny. I'll have to check tower to see if there is a steel vs. delrin one, but i've heard the FLM tranny has better mesh. Anyone know about the STRC case?
|
The FLM pede tranny is ok, you just have to shim a little on the input shaft (the one the spur sits on) to eliminate side to side play.
|
hmmm, im looking to stay cheap. Anyone have a good deal on one of these?
|
You can check into the integy transmission case. Here's my attempt at being unbiased between the Integy and FLM tranny. Some good info in the thread worth checking out before you spend your money.
http://monster.traxxas.com/showthread.php?t=398816 I have the integy on a slash now and the flm is still on my rustler. |
wow, great find Gee. Integy it is! I'm not afraid to say this cuz i have the bulkhead on my pede and it is solid! Sweet...er!!! I can pick one up at my LHS for $20!! (closing sale :( )
