Too Tight?!?!?! Kill me...
Ok guys, I bet this is a first... got a used T-maxx and one of the wheel nuts is too tight... i rly wana run it, but i need to switch around my cvds and shafts so i can run my truetrack... if anyone wants to offer a suggestion other than cutting it off, that'd be appreciated. If i gotta cut it off, anyone got an extra maxx stub axle??

Use a torque bar on your wrench. Is the nut stripped?

Do you own a pair of vice grips? A small butane torch? Clamp vice grips on and apply heat to the nut while pulling on the vice grips. If that doesn't work try heating the nut up just enough to melt some of the nylon, when it hardens again it should form to the threads and you could twist it off. Another option is a drop of thin CA or green loctite. It should seep in and bond to the nylon, the bond with the nylon will be stronger than the bond to the steel and after it cures you should be able to get it off. Hope this helps!

Not enough info on, but assuming that the nut is stripped. If you have a file or dremel you can flatten two sides so you can get a smaller wrench on it. If it in a deep pocket of a wheel like a velocity six rim. You can try a slightly smaller socket and place it on a driver and tap it onto the nut.
If the nut isn't stripped and the axle isn't turning then it sound like the stub axle has broken off. Need to find a way to get a hold of that stub axles while you are turning the nut. Then again if you are putting your true track on it. May as well just remove the arms and drive shaft all in one swoop and that should give you a better view of the problem. the nut is not stripped, but too tight for me to get off with pliers or a nice wrench... i only have a soldering iron, rotary tool, and a hammer :)

That's impossible. Unless the previous owner used red loctite on it.... :oh: Wrenches are just going to slip off due to the wierd angle. Do you have a basic tool set with a socket that fits? Any size ratchet wrench (even the 1/4" ones) will give you enough torque to loosen that thing up. If you don't have any tools I would really recommend buying some. This isn't the only time you'll need them. I promise.

lol, ya. I need to get the wrench (chucked it at my sister a while back) but i'd say i'm in the market for some good support equipment with that pile of poo on my...pingpong table (workbench)

I use red loctite on all 4 of my wheel nuts- never had an issue- only did when I used blue as it wasn't enough.
Blue- temporary Red- semi-permanent Green- permanent Green is normally used on bore & bush apps as an extra measure to secure a loose-ish press fit, but if indeed green was used then the only way out is a good butane or propane torch- which means you are out a wheel and axle carrier/ bearings at the least. Without pics it's hard to be of much help..... |
Having the RIGHT tools is priceless. I cannot tell you the amount of time having the right tool has saved me.
