MMMV3 Up in smoke

Ive been running my mamba flawlessly and love the power till today, ran about half a pack then came inside. recharged it then when i went to plug it in and flip the switch puff!! started smoking like crazy, i unplugged it right a way. so i assume something is shorted out, then to top it off when i went to remove it from the servo tape the case split cracking off a couple of tabs, never had it opened before and it split way to easy in my opinion, so did i void the warranty? i sure hope not as i never tampered with the case. and also if for some reason it can not be covered by warranty can i be notified before my credit card is charged? i already filed a replacement request and will be sending it out very soon. just glad my lipo wasnt damaged and that i was quik to unplug it. has anyone had this problem? it has never been soaked or covered in snow if anything just some droplets from crossing over some ice a nd light snow on the street, but i thought this was suppost to be water resistant. well what can ya do just hope i get it fixed under warranty and back soon as i do love this thing, has anyone else had this happen im sure im not the only one?

Right now the V3 failure rate looks to be much lower than MGM and significantly lower than Quark. The V3 has remained pretty stout. With the type setups being run with the MMM you're bound to see one go now and then. I only know of 3 of the 3000+ that have been sent out. Even if the failure rate was ten times that it would still only be 1%.

Over 10,000 now if you include OEM versions. Failure rates are significantly below 1% (about .2%), which is really amazing when you consider that these are very high power devices.

I am very happy with my v3 performance wise. Been running it since it was shipped as one of the first replacements for the v1/v2s. I put about 5-6 full packs on it every weekend at the track. I temped it this Saturday and it came off the track after 20 minutes at a whopping 69 degrees. Of course, it was only about 35-40 degrees inside the track area, but still kick ass temps.

What extra features do you want? Seems pretty feature-rich already to me!

I once had a speed controller go puff from bringing it in from the cold and condensation settling on the circuit board, having it go puff, my lesson learned was leave the vehicle outside willing charging batteries if I'll be running it soon after batteries are charged.

Thanks bro this is what I wanted to here, now I can get a couple. I run all my 1/8 scale toys on 5s with 1700kv 1515 2.5d motors so I'm sure I will be fine.:yipi: PS one more thing...how can you tell your buying a v3? I only ask cause theres a certain rc boat dealer that claims he has the v3's but he is also a congenital liar and I want to make sure I'm getting what he's promising.

yea im pretty sure it had to be condensation but it could not have been much as all i was on was road, ice, and very light snow, maybe a qaurter inch at the most

The V3s have a blue circuit board.

So my numbers were a little short , last number I heard for sure was 3k+ so that's what I used......

I think all things considered a .2% failure rate i phenomenal!

Glad to help. George answered the question pretty well except I also think the battery leads are now soldered to the board on the V3 versus having the bullet connectors. The motor leads are still bullets though.

Watch out for C.F., wouldn't trust him any further than I could throw him and that' probably too much trust!
