First shot at custom chassis.
 

Got bored, had a lexan shelf, So decided to do some fun. Not bad for a couple of hours and not even done yet =] Any questions LMK, but keep in mind, its still in rough shape, still got to sand, and find a way to mount the electronics. Definably giving me something to do, with 6 inches of fresh snow, and a blown up sled, i really need something to do.

You are going to want to brace it with another piece of lexan. It will flex way too much like it is. You should also look into putting sides on it incase anything comes loose while running, otherwise you will spill the electronics/battery out of the sides.

Good to know, maybe tomorrow i'll keep thinking and make some braces and sides and such. Thanks, the lexan is pretty thick, but 2 layers should be really strong, Not sure if im going to run this chassis, just a learning experience.

I wouldn't stack two layers of lexan, just cut some pieces about 3/8" thick and mount them vertically underneath the chassis with screws about every 2".

Did you run it threw a bandsaw of was it dremel work?

All dremel, still learning, i found a better way to cut it, so i think the next chassis will be better.

Dont run plexiglass in the cold. It tends to be extremely brittle.

its extremely brittle anywhere.... Do i need to remind you of the Warhead's transmission mount? :lol:



Just the other day at robotics, we couldnt tell if somethings was plexglass or lexan, so one of our engineers goes "thats lexan" and tries to flex it-SNAP! "i guess not"





Trev-if you were to make an ibeam style chassis with 2 side plates that stick up and hang down- you can run a battery on each side for your 12c setup:yes:

Plexiglass? I thought he used Lexan? Two completely different plastics... The only thing they share is their transparent nature :wink:. For instance, Lexan will absorb impacts (such as from bullets) whereas plexiglass shatters.

I think its lexan. How can i tell?

When I saw the pic I thought it was plexiglass because it looks strongly like the stuff I use to use. One way to find out if its plexiglass or lexan is to try and flex it. If it breaks its most likely plexiglass and if it doesnt its probably lexan.
