Tell me about Medusa motors for 1/8th
 

I have been brainwashed that Neu is the "Messiah" of 1/8th motors so that's what I run in buggy and truggy. I have been looking to p/u a back up motor and have started to notice more about Medusa's and wanted to see if I could get some cliff notes on these lower cost motors. I know this is a general question but I wanted to get another thread in the Medusa forum. Thanks for any info.

From what I have read here, the Medusa line is a very good motor....used by many forum members. I currently have a 50 series in my daughter's crt.5 and it runs flawlessly. When funds permitt, I will be getting a 70 series for my Revo convesion. For the money, you can't really go wrong.

I have a medusa 60 series in my crt.5. Its a great motor, everything stays cool.

The only motor I like better really is the Tekno Neu. They are really smooth.

The medusa's, older Neu's, and CC Neu's are all very notchy (to me) when they are off the throttle. I dont know if that makes sense to any one else, but if you spin a tekno neu in your hand and then a medusa you can definatly feel the notches in the medusa over the tekno. I dont think it hinders performance in one direction or the other, but I like that the tekno one stays quiet when the truck comes to a stop.

I noticed the same thing as I run a tekno neu in my 8T. Definitely smoother when I compared it to the 36/50/1600 my bro has. Since I use the Tekno clutch system I realized it didn't matter as I don't get motor resistance when the clutch disengages.

It looks odd when I compare the 1512 Neu to a Medusa 50 or a 60 and realize the size difference. I am thinking I might hurt the Medusa motor and how can this little thing power my car. But it obviously can since others are using on their set-ups.

Neu motors are as good of a motor as you can get right now, but for the price you can't go wrong with a MedUsa motor. I currently have 3 of them and all of them perform flawlessly and outperform any other motor I've seen in this price range.

Medusa's are awesome motors whether you factor in price or not. We had a 50/2200 going strong in a buggy for months. We changed the setup a little bit ago, but only because we were testing setups. The 50 is the same size as brushed motors, it doesn't make any sense, but it pushed that 8lb buggy around just fine. The 60's seem like the best balance of power, weight, efficiency, and cool running for a buggy though. If you're just racing for 10 min or less, you could go with a 50. 70-80 for truggies (although we had a 60-1300 on 6s in a truggy for a while too:)

I have a 50/2200 in my .5. I've had Neus and Tekno neus and LMTs. This is as good as any. There are just a couple of things that make it a bit cheaper, but really its not to much of a diff. Lots and lots of power in my .5. Definite Best Buy

I have a TeknoRC Neu 1515 1y and a Medusa 36-70-2000Kv. The Neu is on my ST-RR while the Medusa is on my revo conversion. I like them and both are running on 5S. In my experience, the Neu is smoother and a bit powerful than the Medusa. However, the Medusa is cheaper. I can get 2 Medusa motors for the price of one Neu. Best bang for the buck motor.

You can't go wrong with either of them. It all depends on your personal preference and depth of your wallet.

What about temperture? How does the Medusa measure up compared to Neu? I'm looking to get a 80mm for a 16lb monster, can I expect Neu type temps? Or at least close?

The Medusa I have runs cooler than the TeknoRC Neu I'm running on my truggy. My trucks weigh almost 10.5 lbs apiece so I don't how a 36-80 will run temp-wise on a 16 lb tank.

Keep in mind that Medusas are 36mm diameter and Nue 15xx series are 40mm diameter (~44mm with fins). So, a better comparison would be between the 14xx Neu series and the a Medusa of the same length kv..

I've had great luck with 36-60-2000's in my buggies running 4S & 5S with the MMM. Great motors with a great price.

I got 160 degrees on my 36-60-2000 when running without the heatsink, is that normal? Never topped 130 with the heatsink on, should it make THAT much difference?

If the set ups are the same, the heat sink will make a big difference.:mdr:

What is your set up, more info could be helpful in possibly lowering temps. even further.

I have had a 36-60-2000 with a RCM heatsink/clamp,and a .5x2in. slit in the bottom of the windshield for air in my FLM E Maxx with a mmm on 4s. Geared for 40mph it hit 160f one time when I was running through snow spinning most ot the time. I have run SPC 8000mah packs till cutoff on a soccer field non stop and am lucky if it hits 130. I just put a 36-70-2300 in it and have yet to run it. My Neu 15151y smooth can tends to run about 10f hotter in my x1crt on 4s geared fot 40. From what I have read and seen for my self I would get the medusa and use the saved money for other upgrades.
