LRP 1/8 brushless stuff!!
LRP S8BX Brushless
Looks like LRP is getting into the 1/8 brushless game too. http://rcspecial.com/news/?p=14569 |
For some reason that site doesn't work for me. Please post some pics.

Those batteries look like 4S (maybe 2S2P?) lipo, are my eyes paying games on me?

Looks sensored...
|
Defiantly sensored, blah! but also looks like 4s, 2s bats in series, looks like theres bullet connectors on both sides of the batts?
|
ESC looks nice and small. Makes it easier to fit in, but I wonder about how much power it can take. Everything LRP makes now is sensored so it makes sense that they would offer a sensored setup in 1/8 too. Like Novak. Doesnt look like anything very innovative though.

Look! They didn't even shrinkwrap the angled bullet connector!

That's some funny stuff. Well here is what they did. They made a motor similar to the Novak HV so now I know who makes the LRP motors then they just got a bit smarter and noticed their ESC can work with 4S lipos lol. It's the same ESC they offer now, the the sensored only ESC might offer problems in 1/8 scale racing if the sensor plug comes out.

It will probably be quite pricey as well...just look at their 1/10 scale controller.

waste of time there LRP. Although their 1/10 8.5t BL motor does perform rather well...

Lol, this is going to be interesting to say the least. Even if it is a brand new ESC, LRP's other brushless units are incredibly unreliable...they're always frying from overcurrent, or for no apparent reason (within spec). That already doesn't bode well for this thing, IMO.
But if this is their new SPX or one of their Sphere models with a few tweaks, then it's going to be - in my opinion - hopeless. I can't see that sensored 1/8th is going to last anyway, but if they can't make a reliable 1/10th ESC, then I dread to think how this is going to fare under the greater stresses of 1/8th. They'll probably charge through the nose for it, too. I might well be wrong, but that's how I see it. |
Looks like they moved the weight towards the rear as well(dumb). Good for me. :)

First thing most of these companies need to start doing is providing real AMP numbers. I can't see the LRP ESC providing 400A per Phase like they state on the Spec or Comp. ESC. I would actually love to see some one try to pump out 700A+ with the Ko ESC. I remember when a respected drag racer went to the LHS to get the LRP Spec and saying it would provide 400A per phase. I told him if he wanted to try my 200A and he said the LRP puts out 400A. Funny how the next time I saw him, he wanted to return the LRP. I asked him again and the fool said he was having his own ESC being made and as of yet, I haven't seen nothing, but he did ask me for a 200A through one of the forums lol. My guess is that most of the companies put out the over rated specs to get all the fools to buy their products, because they go by their numbers. Now the only way to get the companies to actually stop doing that is to be more educated and start asking them how in the hell can I get 400 or more amps from your ESC? Maybe they'll feel the pressure and start posting some realistic numbers and start education a lot of people out there in the hobby.
