Question about a Neu motor
I am considering purchasing a Neu motor for my 8ight. I have found a barely used Neu 1512 1.5 d/f. Is this something/size-wise that is doable? What are my parameters?
I will more than likely be running it on a MM esc. What size Lipo is recommended? Any other surprises? What would something like this normally sell for? Is has about 5 races on it. 2 w/ a MM and 2 w/ a MMM. Thanks guys -Doug |
I believe the 1512 1.5d is 3400kv, would be a speedy 4s motor. I would think that neu in that condition would be somewhere in the $180-$200 range.

That's what I am running in my 8B. It a great motor and it is speedy on 4s. You'll like it if you get it. I got a good deal on mine from another RCM member. I can't remeber the exact price but it was less then 140 for it. You'll have some options for hearing with that motor also. Just don't stop to lick your butt and you'll be okay. LOL

Bit too speedy me thinks- that would make a killer motor for 3s lipo, but I reckon it would be too much for 4s, even geared low. I may be wrong though..

Here is some info from Brian's motor selector program...I wasn't sure what diff gear ratios are in the 8ight so I used 43/13. I also assumed you'd be running 4S and want to be in the 45mph range. I input values using a 15T pinion and 47T spur. You may want to go a little smaller on the pinion. Ideally you want the motor rpm to stay at or under 40K...I guess it doesn't hurt to push it a little over that every now and then:tongue:.

http://www.castlecreations.com/produ...rs/nm1500.html BTW...Neil is right...if you run 4S on the 1512 1.5D that comes out to 48,840 RPMs, which most of the folks on here say that it is best to stay under 40,000 RPMS. If you look in the data I printed below...it looks like the 1515 1.5D or 1515 1Y are good choices. I actually run in the mid to 40K range on one of my road cars and I manage t keep the temps low...but it probably isn't the best for the motor. One thing is for sure...I wouldn't push the motor to spec limits given the cost of those little gems. |

You are welcome. But it is probably also best to weigh in with some of the guys here that race. They can probably give you better advice on gearing selection and pointers on keeping temps low and keeping your electronics happy. Serum has a really good sticky on brushless general information. Well worth reading.

I started out with the 1515 1y in the eight on 4s and it was sweet. I came across the 1512 1.5 on here and it was a little less weight and I read a lot of the other buggies were using the 1512's too. I don't race but I do like to haul ass. This thing is impressive with the 12 on 4s. Handles great at the higher speeds. I run a 16t on it and just won some dace 17mm adapeter for $5 of ebay. They added a 1/2 in to it. Fun!
