Budget intended conversion

Hi guys i used to run nitro but ever since i bought my e-maxx a week ago i love it!!! Well i want to convert my st-rr but budget oriented because i just bought a e-maxx which will be stock forever. Ok anyways I found 2 esc's and i will be sticking too a 4s lipo setup but i will be running two 2s lipos i will race truggy but not that much. Now here are the 2 esc's
Either mamba max with 2fans
or this...read good things on it, which i will probably get!!

Now for the motor ?
A medusa but what kind?
Or a speedpassion 8.5t 2200kv
Fieego 8xl/9xl

*Please help guys I have been 2 rctech and they dont help for &*&*(:grrrrrr:

Honestly we have all been down this right but you are much better off with saving your money and doing it right the first time.

Buy a MMM combo 2200

The MM will require an UBEC to work on 4s whic basically gets you to a MMM. A feigao and a heatsink (unless used) will get you to a $100 which is close enough to a castle neu.

If you are looking used then thats different...

Why cant i use the hobbywing esc, y does mike sell the hobbywing one if people r saying its junk, i read its great? Now what medusa motor on a 4s setup? If not I will go with the speed passion or novak combo!!!

Arct1k 02.09.2009 06:29 PM

I'd like to clarify I didn't say it was rubbish I just believe after several years of doing this your better off buying once correctly than trying to save $50 and then smoking something after a couple of days.

That esc is only 80amps however I would pair it with a Medusa 60mm 2000kv if you wanted to go down that route.

I just honestly think for $240 I'd take the MMM combo... $80 for the EZ and $120 for a motor = $200

The extra $40 for castle service is a no brainer IMO.

But each to their own...

Where can u get the mmm combo for 240? But then i got 2 buy a motor mount and batterys..
whats wrong with an 80amp esc and the medusa combo?

Arct1k 02.09.2009 07:00 PM

I think 80amps might be a bit light and for the amount of the differential I would take Castle every time.

I've toasted 3 MM and castle helped me out on 1 and I paid the flat fee on 2. With an EZ I'd be out the purchase cost every time. I'm open to alternatives and have 3 medusa motors myself.

I've also run Novak, MGM, Quark and BK ESC's... But you said you had a budget which normally means do things once rather than experiment... which is why I direct you to the MMM combo...

Nothing wrong with an 80A ESC per se, it's just that we all like to have a little "headroom" when choosing a setup, especially in something as heavy as a truggy. If that ESC was capable of 6s, then pairing that with a ~1800 kv motor would work. But 4s on a truggy is gonna pull some pretty serious current if geared over 25-30mph, and you'll want a stronger ESC.

Ok so save for the mmm combo i guess then...Im a sell the st-rr (nice condition i never used) and pick up a roller off ebay cheapier!

gogglespaesano 02.09.2009 10:21 PM

If you already have the st-rr, I would keep that rather than selling it and getting a roller of ebay. Just sell off the nitro stuff you aren't going to use and put that toward your conversion. If you buy a roller, you never really know what you're getting until you get it.

Arct1k is definitely trying to help you out by keeping you from making a mistake a lot of us have made and you'll find that BrianG is one of the electronics gurus on this site, definitely someone to listen to.

Good luck and post up pics of your conversion when it's done!

derek_18mt 02.09.2009 11:06 PM

well i have no nitro stuff to sell i bought as intended for racing nitro and its loaded with hop-ups..so basically there is nothing to sell.

magman 02.09.2009 11:20 PM

I made the mistake that these guys are talking about. I bought inexpensive stuff to see how I was going to like switching from nitro /electric. After blowing a few set ups up, I joined these forums, listened, took some GREAT advice and bought superior products to my first purchases. Put it this way, the two vehicles I have NEU motors in, total $ 420- for the two. (That's just for the 2 motors)

Quality comes w/a price...do it right once and forget about it or go cheap and sweat it out every time you take it out. Don't skimp, take some good advice and then......GO FAST!:mdr:

Amen to that....If I was smart enough at the time of my first conversion to take good advice for the members here, it would have saved me a bunch of $...hind sight is always 20/20:whistle:

derek_18mt 02.11.2009 12:41 AM

So going with a 4s setup what kv motor do i want???

e-rev project 02.11.2009 02:34 AM
