chargers
i was at the track today running my rc8. I have 2 5000mah 4s batteries i use. My charger is a Hyperion 6060i AC/DC. When i started to charge one of my batteries it would only charge it at 3amps. i never really thought anything of it. but it should be charging at 5amps cause its a 5000mah battery. I then put my second battery on my buddys ice charger and it charged it at 5amps and was pluged into a powersupply.
i was wondering why does my hyperion charger only charge at 3 amps and my buddys ice charge at 5. is it cause im pluged into the wall and he is on a power supply. thanks. |
IIRC, the 0606i is a 50W charger. Which means charging 4s will get you a max of ~4A (@3v/cell) and will drop to ~3A at the CC/CV threshold.
|
so what charger would charge my batteries at the full 5amps besides the ice.(i dont realy like the ice charger)
|
There are a bunch really. Just look for anything that will charge at least 4s @ 5A, and has at least an 84W power limit. For current hyperion models, that's EOS 0720i and EOS 0610i DUO2.
Edit: And those take anything from 11v to 28v for the power supply. For a given power, using a 28v supply will require a little less than half the current that a 12v supply would require. |
Since the 720i just came out, the 610i chargers are selling cheap... Look around and you may find some deals. The 610i is a 250 watt max charger and will do what you want, but will require a 25amp power supply (min) to push out 250 watts.

we sell the 610i at work so maybe i will look into that.
thanks. |
wait we sell the 1210i charger. would that do what i want?

Or buy another charger cheap such as a 5i and save the money for batteries... much better IMO to have more batteries and slower charging...

I know a guys who is selling a 5i/lba10 combo for a good price... And another guy who has a 5i/lba6 combo too... |
And that individual just lowered his price ;)

and that sir, is why he is called the pimp.....
If you have the cash, I would go after the duo2 |
I'm in the market for a new charger myself and would sell my Hyperion 7i, but it errors out near CC/CV threshold at anything over 3.8A when charging lipos.
Aside from >=6s and >=8A and >=120w power limit, the charger I get MUST have the ability to adjust the charge current on-the-fly (while charging). I do some pretty funky stuff sometimes, and do need this. I almost snapped up a 989 but it didn't have this feature. |

I think the other guy has his stuff sold... Quote:
