Power Supply or Power Switching?

Hey guys,

As you all know I'm considering going lipo. Appearently all of the cheaper/good quality chargers are DC. Is there such a thing as a power switcher? Something that plugs into the wall (AC) outlet, goes through a circut of some kind, and switches the current instantly to DC without "storing" the electricity? Thanks!

What?

You mean a 12V power supply.....??

Yep. Many places sell 120vAC to 12vDC power supplies. Or you can modify certain computer power supplies to do this. Either way, you have to make sure the supply will deliver the current your charger needs. What charger?

Well, I'm only looking to charge a 2-3s battery at 3.5-5 amps (depending on what lipo i get) so i'd need about 12v and 18a?

Or one could buy a charger with a built in AC/DC converter/ power supply, such as the Bantam BC6 or Hyperion 606i. Both are limited to 50 watts output as a result, buts thats fine for charging a ~5000mah 2s lipo in 1 hour, closer to 1.5 hours for a 4s item of similar capacity ( charge time = voltage of lipo x amp capacity in relation to the power output of the charger; if the answer is 14.8v x 5amps = 74watts, then it will take a 50watt charger ~1.5 hours, as 74watts is about 50% more than 50watts, see?...)

Whatever floats your specific boat though, I like my BC6 as its simple, like me...

True, but I modded PS units I had laying around, so they were "free" since they weren't being used anyhow. Besides, I like to mod them so they have closer to ~14v when possible...
