Hudy Wheel Balancer - Feedback?

I want to get a wheel balancer that will handle buggy, monster truck & 40 series wheels (8ight-e, e-revo) and the Hudy Wheel Balancer sticks out as a solid product. I have been looking at the 1/8th adapter and although it would handle buggy great I cannot tell if it can handle monster or 40 series wheels.

Can anyone that has it provide some insight or can someone recommend an alternative that can handle up to 40 series?

Any Hudy tool I've used was always top notch. If you want another alternative, you can easily modify a Dubro prop balancer to accept Monster Truck wheels. Even the 40 series. All you need is a slightly wider base plate. Here's a couple pics of mine.

I made a wider base plate out of a thick sheet of aluminum so that the Dubro prop balancer could be used to balance my Monster Truck wheels. The balancer is now wide enough so that it can accommodate 40 series wheels. To the left is the original base of the Dubro prop balancer that I used as a template to make the holes in the new base plate.

This is the shaft of the Dubro prop balancer. It comes with two cone shaped aluminum pieces that I use to secure and center the wheel. I also use an old Maximizer 17 mm hub (the black piece), a spacer which is just a plastic tube to center the wheel on the shaft and a collet to hold everything firmly on the shaft.

I use the Ultimate Racing 1/8 wheel balancer you can find on the net it handles anything 17mm hex and no need for extra pieces

Thanks for the pointer on that one, I saw it online but couldn't find any dimensions and without positive confirmation on 40 series wheel support ~95mm wide and 175mm tall (depending on wheel) I was hesitant to make a move. I like the DuBro mod but it looks like that will be the easiest solution supporting large wheels.

For reference, Hudy wrote me and said the 1/8 adapter does 80mm by 140mm max, the other adapters change the hub but don't improve the overall dimensions.

Maybe the DuBro balancer with the mod is the way to go since I cannot find the Ultimate Racing balancer anywhere.

I found a couple of sites that carry it but they tell me it's discontinued, it looks like it might be in stock in a couple of local UK sites but none I found tht offers international shipping on their web page, need to email and ask.

I went looking for the Ballistic balancer as well since it seems it's just a DuBro mod already completed but I had no luck finding it in stock anywhere either.

Maybe I'm just having bad luck searching.

fsracer,

Any pointers on where to pick one up?

Check this thread out.

CHeck this thread out. I put some pics in there on the Dubro balancer as well a while back. I think this might help you out. It is pretty easy to setup just about anywhere you like.

That thing looks really great, but can it handle monster trucks wheels? With the Dubro balancer anyone can modify the actual structure to make any R/C size wheel fit.

I have had LRP truggy tires on this balancer which are tall and there wasn't any clearance issues.

Mt tires

Are they as big as MT tires 6" to 7" in diameter, and 3" to 4" wide? Unless you have actually tried putting MT tires on there we have no idea if they will fit. So get an MT tire and try it out so you can actually share with us wheather or not it will work. Thank you for your efforts Sir.

I bought one today based on the initial comment that anything would fit but I'm worried now. It will be here in a couple of days but the Hudy will also fit those truggy tires but not MT or 40 series wheels.

Bottom line.

Well bottom line is that you will now be able to try it out and give us the answer that we seek, which is weather or not MT wheels will work on the Hudy balancer since no one can give us a first hand account about the matter. CONGRATULATIONS You are the RCM guinie pig.

Small correction, I will be trying out the Ultimate Racing balancer because an earlier account said anything will fit but now I am not so sure since Truggy tires fit the Hudy balancer as well. Look for a post above where I note the maximum dimensions Hudy said the balancer can handle, definitely no MT support for it.

I just got back in town and opened the UR Wheel balancer recommended earlier in the thread, it definitely won't balance much more then truggy tires.

Although it doesn't have the height it looks like it has the width minus the fact that the included nut doesn't fit in any of my Traxxas 3.3 rims with Talons. The 17mm hub works fine but the outside nut is about 1/4" too big, the threading is different then all of my 17mm hubs so I have nothing that will hold the tire on right now.

Looks like the DuBro mod was by far the best idea but now that I have this I am going to add some height to it and see if I can get it working, just need to find a 17mm nut that will fit it.
