Align 600XL - thoughts
Hi
What do people think of the Align 600XL (1650kV wind), I plan on running it on 4S in an 8ight geared for a little under 40mph (racing). I am a nitro guy really, so what I've read about slow startup, does that mean that it's very smooth, or does it stutter? Really, I would like a smoother motor, I'm not one for wheel-spinning, tyre-shredding acceleration. Especially not on a track. Would this motor be good? Thanks Simon |
I like them. They are very smooth, as most high-pole motors are. It does depend on the ESC used as well. It should perform well on 4s. I used one in my Rustler on 4s and it was near uncontrollable, so in a heavier vehicle it should be OK. :mdr: Oh and they sound cool, too.

For the price of the Align, you really should consider a Medusa 36-60 or 36-70.

just get a castle motor, better quality, better cs

I ran both the align l and xl and honestly think the medusa motors are better...

I ran them both with the MGM 16018 and MMM. The MGM couldn't run the Align for poop and had reversing issues. The align was smooth on the MMM but the Medusa was smoother. The MGM ran the medusa well but the MMM was much smoother. I think the 60mm medusa is perfect for a buggy but a little light for an MT, I think the 70mm for regular MT's and the 80mm for bigger heavier MT's. I know the original post was about an 8ight but thought I would throw that in there. Sleebusjones bought my Align from me for a buggy and still didn't like it. He was geared for around 40 as well I believe. I am sure he still has it and would sell it to you though. |
I guess mine was a singular experience. I ran my 600XL with a MGM 16016-3s with the 2.32 firmware. It was smooth, powerful, and stopped well, too. Then again, I seem to have the BEST luck with anything electronic.

I think the Align's sweet spot is exactly what is was meant for, high constant RPM's in heli's with lots of air flow. In heli's, the motor turns a constant RPM while lift/speed is adjusted through rotor blade pitch.

Down there in that Texas heat, you're gonna have to lean into the heat sink method. I've often wondered about the Align 600xl and may try one. Especially since they seem to be coming down in price. I've heard they sound really cool. |
They sound like a turbine due to the internal fan.

I think, I know it's against many, I'm going to try one (I can actually get Aign stuff in the UK for a start). I can get one pretty cheap (like Faegao price (- I think that's how you spell it)). If it runs crap, I won't of lost a lot, so I can always try other motors. The 8ight is only as a bit of fun anyways (I normally race a TRF801XT that is nitro), so I don't need anything really good... yet
And it's bloody cold in the UK, so overheating probably won't be so much of a problem... |
