Which 17mm hex conversion for E-Maxx?
I'm trying to decide between the following options:
UE 6mm CVD's w/17mm hexes from eBay (hexes are currently listed with about 90 minutes left) or MIP 1665 CVD's w/17mm hub conversion from either Ofna or Traxxas The reason I'm even considering the MIP's is that I can go to a standard 17mm wheel nut instead of some stupid oversized flanged nut for holding the wheel on. I have the flanged nut on my Savage Flux and absolutely hate it! I've heard good thing about the MIP's lately and should be able to sell my UE's to recoup at least some of the cost of the MIP's. Any opinions on this? My main goal is to get to 17mm hubs instead of the 23mm I have on now since all my other vehicles run 17mm. |
My vote would go to UE, over in the nitro section of the Traxxas forums there has been some real bad experiences with the MIP CVD's. If you are a member of the UE forums, Dapparothead has one set left of the 6mm 17mm Hexes, he is the design builder of the part, flick him a PM and see if he can beat Scotts price.......

Personally, I'd go all out and get the RD Racing or Tekno knuckles, with siders and 8mm axles. That'll allow you to run most any 17mm hub, and you'll have beafy 8mm axles, but I don't know your setup, so you might not even be able to go with the 3.3 knuckles or the sliders. |

I have yet to see anyone here with problems with the MIP 1665's. I'll head over there and take a look though. Quote:

Small update on this...
Bought the MIP1665's, stock 3.3 Knuckles and Ofna hexes. I put them on one corner and found out that the 3.3 knuckles pull the CVD's out slightly farther than the 2.5 setup with the UE CVD's. Because of this, the MIP CVD's are slightly too short for the UE outdrives. I decided I didn't want to tear down the whole front and rear diffs to install stubs and the MIP cups, so I bought some custom 17mm hexes for the UE CVD's. I got them in yesterday and hope to have them installed over the weekend. |
So what are you going to do with the OFNA 17mm hexes hmmmmmm????
