Moabs or Phaltlines

Hi guys,

stuck between two very different tires.
I do a lot of speed runs on pavement, and i like the least ballooning tire.
I also run a lot on grass/wet grass and dirt/gravel.

Basically I either want to get the Proline 40-series Moabs, or the HPI Phaltline tires.

I know the Moabs will be better for off-road, and the Phaltlines will be better for on-road.
My concern is that the Moabs will balloon too much when doing high-speed runs, and the Phaltlines will wear out too fast when on gravel, and be too slippery on grass.

I'll be putting them on my e-revo with either 17 or 23mm hexes.

Any advice greatly appreciated as always!

Many thanks

Plan ahead.

Just plan ahead:yes:. Get the Moabs for now since they will hold up the most, and when you have more money get the Phaltlines:yes:. That way you will have both to cover any type driving that you desire:yipi:. Sounds simple enough to me.

Or try to find some Proline Knuckles 2.0. They are somewhere between the two treads you are looking at.

If you tape and balance the moabs they will be fine. They have quite a bit more sidewall than the phatlines...

yeah i think i'm gonna go for the moabs. I like a big tire!
Now i just gotta find some rims. Do you know of a 40-series rim that has 1/2 offset (so i get a wider stance)?

cheers

Due to the 40 series wheels being wider than the standard maxx size tires the extra width is on the outside. This will give you some stability. I'm not sure of many if any 40 series wheels with a 1/2" offset. The moabs do not balloon as bad as you would think, but could use some balancing as link said. Taping them will get rid off any ballooning though. I think proline only has crome rims now. If you can find the wabash grab them. I think they are no longer making them. The Axial oversized are nice, and they have them in beadlock style also. Check the links in your shattered a wheer thread again. You should find something there.

These will do.

CHeck out the link above for info on Axial beadlock rims, plus taping and balancing advice. This is your best bet if you want some really tough wheels to put your Moabs on.

cool thanks, i never knew that about the offset. I dont think i'm gonna go with beadlocks because they could come apart at 60mph. I'll probably go with the Wabash.

cheers

Not.

Not if you put them together properly. For added comfort try putting some double sticky tape on the under side of the metal holding ring. I am sure that you can do more than 60mph with that mod.

The wabash rims actually have less offset (narrower stance) than all the rest of the 40 series wheels.

Yes, because they where designed for the Revo. The 40 series Velocities actually have a 1/2" offset, the Walbash would be 0 offset.
