Nice, a 4wd 5th scale..sweet! I hate to ask the price though

BL_RV0 03.07.2009 12:22 AM

KD and newera have 1/5 TVP conversion plates for savage.

lincpimp 03.07.2009 01:30 AM

So will "lincpimp"... Got my buddy with the laser cutter designing one as we speak...

All I need to find is a cheaper 5t body...

MetalMan 03.07.2009 01:40 AM

What about those wheels/tires?

They are just baja wheels, only issue is the 24mm hubs...

I plan to use narrow axial 40 series beadlocks and narrowed std 40 series moabs. Cut them down to moab xl width.

I just like the fact the tranny is in the back, and the batterys can go in front behind the steering servo. Not sure if i will leave the mech brakes, or lock it in 2nd... I will see what the final weight is. A 1521 2y on 10s lipo should do fine with a locked tranny, only trying to get 40mph out of it.

The bodys are just so expensive... Maybe someone with a lhs hookup could help (hint, hint)

The Pro-Line body to convert a 5B to truck is a little cheaper than the HPI version.

Proline is the way to go for sure to save a few buks.

lincpimp 03.07.2009 11:19 PM

I do like proline's desert rat...

The bodies are not cheap, that is for sure!!!

Holy s**t those are expensive...Are they gold plated...nope!

MetalMan 03.08.2009 02:27 AM

Can you say LONG dogbones? Seems they might not hold up considering they are the same (not-so-thick) thickness along the entire length.

Its basically a Savage XXL. They kept that fuel tank tho, wtf. All that room in the front plates and they wouldn't put a new mid-tank type unit in there.
And 24mm hubs.. is this 1/5th scale std size? That sucks they didn't just use 23mm. Rly? 1mm makes a difference? Then people could have used those hubs on MT savvies, and the 5T could use any 40 series rim.

Those wheels could be fun on my XL. Big, but not too much sidewall to flex. That is one loooonngggg savvy. Looks cool tho, and is hopefully around $600-700. Much more than get the baja and fuelie engine and oversized parts.

Its dying to be BL tho. That nitro can't be that fast in that huge thing. Looks a little F heavy in the vid too. A big 1521 on lots of electrons should move it nicely.

I think the savage has been reinvented more times than Madonna.

that was what I first thought when I saw the nitro motor....it might need more than a 1521 , prehaps a 1527 or a higher pole heli motor ( thinking torque here)

24mm hub is the standard HPI baja hub that has been used for quite some time. There are aluminum rims out there that are 24mm and take the proline 40 series tires (rc4wd).
I have a pair of them right now. I think the price will be more like 800.00 do to the cost of the bigger body and the tires. Well the truck is bigger in size, the weight has to be close to that of the savage XL then the Baja 5T. I just wonder if this is the rumored 4x4 that the baja people have been talking about being developed. If so they are really going to be pissed off. It will be interesting to see if teh hubs, arms, shocks, can handle the extra stress of those bigger tires. Those tires are just a touch taller then the proline moab 40 series.
