My Blizzard Smoked my Sidewinder

blizzard, sidewinder, lrp 4300kv motor, 3s lipo. Temps after the first run where esc =124deg f motor 110f and battery 75f. Everything was going good untill is slowed down and stopped. When i picked it up it must have been 3 times its own weight with all the snow packed in it. The snow is more like ice than snow right now.
It also had the freshly burnt smell of electronics. I think I'll use my MM and a better motor in it next. What is everyone else using for esc's in blizzards?

If you get your esc warrentied you might want to disable the bec on your new one if you don't already. You can also add a cap and/or a fan.

I am almost lead to beleive there was a bad solder joint.

I haven't been following the sidewinders since they came out. Has the BEC been a problem?

The BEC has not problem. It's just that disabling it takes strain off the esc. You can safely run 4s with the bec disabled. Just remove the red wire and add an external bec or rx pack.

It still connects to the computer with the USB. I'll try it with a ubec and see if it works.

IMO, that setup is a bit too fast for a tracked vehicle anyways. Your looking at 50K RPM at WOT. That's going to put a strain on the ESC even without 5# of snow on it.

Hahaha, yeah you're right!  I think the MM will help though. Just be careful you don't blow out the transmission.

Remember that the snow isn't just weighing it down, its preventing airflow and making everything heat up more. thats how I fried my hacker motor.
