First Rc 1/8th buggy race
so after work i went to the track to watch the races. and when i got there they had just started. They do 2 qualifying and 1 main. Well after the first round of qualifying by boss who was announcing the races told me i should race cause there was like 4 cars in beginner and i had a pretty good chance. so i said sure. went out to my car and got my stuff and got ready.
I have 2 batterys and one was half charged and the other was dead. I stared to charge both and the half dead one i used for the qualifying race and the dead one was going to be charged by the time i had to do the main. After the first qualifying race i had placed 3rd. and then the main came. by battery was 95% charged. and it was time to race. so i put it in my car and went out there. i did not warm up lap i just sat on the pit wall and waited for the race to start. The race started and i jumped into first on the frist straight away and after that i keeped the lead and my lead kept getting bigger and bigger. after 2 min. into the race i stared to conserve by battery. i was bearly on the trottle at all the rest of the race. and its a 12min race. So i was on my last lap with about 20sec to go befor the raced was going to end and i was going to win my first race when my battery died!. I was so so so close to the finish but i got a big DNF witch sucked!. but everyone says i still won but to me i lost and now im going to starte messing with my setup so i can get a full 12mins of race time. well i just wanted to share with you my first buggy race. |
damn... that's a close one.
Thats gotta suck. At least you know your capable of taking it out next time.
congrats on the win but i know the dnf feeling i have came in 2nd a couple times because of the dead battery but i set my lvc high so i save the packs.
Congrats! I just won my first A-main Losi mini late-model race yesterday!
Congrats o n the almost win. Sounds like you are a pretty good driver, eh?
well on tuesday when i got to practice again im going to do a lot to try to get more run time.
like lower my gearing, set my punch control to 100%, charge by battery up all the way lol. the next race is not for like 2 weeks cause next week is the losi race and not a club race. so in 2 weeks we shall see if maybe i can take my first official win lol |
That sounds like it wouldn've been funny when it happened,. Good luck on racing!
BTW, next time you race,, a video camera would be a nice item to take. |
drkros3-good job man!
ive been racing mine alot lately indoors, and out. indoor races at ocrc are 5/7 mins outdoor races at hotrod are 5-7 and 10-15 for the mains the indoor crowd is very competitive and are all electric conversions usually two heats outdoor crowd is all nitro two classes and pretty competitive too then there is revelation, probably closest to you? |
yah i race at revelation. its like 10mins away and i know a lot of poeple that go there.
drkros3, I'd race with a full charge before changing anything. You could also lower the cut-off a bit, to see if you can get the couple minutes you need. I run quark esc's with a max of 3v per cell cut-off and pull off when the cut-off first hits, I always get above 3v per cell when the car comes off. If bashing i see higher cut-off, but racing you might need the extra few sec's it could give
my cut off is already set to 3volts per cell. but yah im going i will try and see if a fully charged pack would give me the run time i need. They changed the track yesterday so i might have to change up my gearing depending on the track..
dude you just need 6s! my rc8 will run for easy 15 mins and still have like 1000-1500 mah out of 3200. as you have the 2650 this is not possible so... a fully charged pack may do it or try gearing down a bit to get a minute or two. next time you race let me know i may be able to meet you there and do some racing as well.
well you really didnt get a dnf, just a lap lower then you did, and you couldnt putt around the last lap? usually cut off just cuts the throttle in half
i was to far away to just try and putt around plus with the cutt off set so low i dont want to risk messing up the battery. Also i was at the bottom of a jump so i dont think i would have the power to get up it.
i put a 15t clutch bell on today cause the other 17t bell that was on it striped after messing around when the racing was all done. tomorrow i go to the track to pratice so i will find out what kinda runtimes im getting now. Also i have been thinking about a lower kv motor like the cc 2200kv motor. maybe that would give me a better run time |
