A preview of my custom Savage conversion
I've never shared much of my build ideas here, so here it goes:
Been scheming this for a couple years now, I just must have a lot less disposable income than y'all because I haven't been able to pull it off 'til now. This is a preview, I'm waiting for the machinist to finish some of the parts and he's been taking forever. A special thanks to Tim Doolittle for forwarding a cad file I could modify for the TVPs. An overall shot of how it will look: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...ge/Savage1.jpg Side view of the TVPs: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...e/savage12.jpg The center trans here will be running a Revo slipper driving a standard 1/8th center diff. It also serves as the front support for the motor plate so it can be adjusted from bird's eye view: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...ge/savage4.jpg |
The center trans pulls out with 4 screws and unclips to pull apart:

MMM moves with the motor on its plate: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...ge/savage5.jpg Both front and back of the motor are clamped in place: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...ge/savage7.jpg |
looking good!!, what model of hacker is it and what voltage are you planning on running??
|
It's a B50 8XL (2000kv) and I'm running 5s 2p 5300 Elite packs. Aiming for the longest bashing time possible!
|
any idea how much its going to weigh, wonder if you dropped much going to the carbon fiber
|
Don't know on the final weight yet. The batteries are quite heavy, so it will probably be close to a stock nitro version. The CF is really just for show on this one. The weight difference won't be worth a damn. I'm going to get a pair cut out of aluminum also.
|
I like the MMM and motor in one unit like that. Will the battery trays be adjustable front to back to adjust weight distribution?
|
The battery trays are fixed in the center of the truck. They are sized for big packs (190mm long), so a standard sized pack could be shifted fore and aft.
|
Got a couple things on it today. Jammin SBB shocks, and the wheels. Machinist said he'd be done counterboring the bearing holes and tapping mounting holes in the parts by the end of this week, so I may even be able to drive it by this weekend!

Looks very tasty! Nice work, I wish I was closer so that I could eyeball it in person!!!
Starting to look like the custom savvys are starting a trend! |

How much are those chassis plates stretched?? Look great!
|
Thanks guys.
Joey, They are stretched 1.5" over stock .25/x plates. |
