comparing Hotwire to castlelink
has anybody used both and have any opinions? I am considering trying an RX8 ESC in my Losi 8T
|
I would guess as long as the hotwire has all the basic features of the castle link it would work great. All the stuff on the one tab in the castle link software is all I ever use.
|
included in MMM package vs sold seperately.
|
I just ordered the the RX8 combo and a Tekin Hotwire interface, I hope it is worth it. Castle link was alot cheaper. Free vs $40:gasp:
|
You will be more than happy with your investment, trust me.
|
For most ESCs the tekin goods are faster to program via buttons, and the hotwire does not currently have throttle curves for all models and firmwares.
The castle goods need the Link to open up all programming options. |
With the castle link iirc you can program almost everything except the throttle and brake curves that sandard way.(beeps and trigger pulls)
|
programming through the Tx is a total PITA...so the computer interface is very important to me

You will have no issues using our Hotwire. It's very easy to use and most new users take it to it naturally.
You can adjust most of the features via the onboard interface quickly and easily on the fly. Pop the body, hit a few buttons, make your adjustment, wait for the system to accept them, and you're racing! |
The Hotwire is ok, but definitely not as easy to use or understand as the Castlelink. Plus there are some weird little issues with it, like when you click and hold the scroll bars to adjust the values up and down, you must stay within the bar (left and right) or it stops moving the bar. And it just doesn't explain all of the adjustments as well as the Castlelink. Don't get me wrong, it's way better than manual programing, but it's just not as polished as the Castle.

I would have to agree with Matthew. The castle link is easier to understand and use.
However the tekin is much easier to adjust with out a pc then the mamba is. |
Have you tried right clicking on the bars? There is more info and suggested settings when you do.
There are great descriptions of the settings and their effects in the manual that comes with the esc. I suppose if you were to just plug it in and go without reading you have a vaild point. We will work on that and move forward. |
Giving the bars full labels would help, like Drag brake instead of DB. Also, when there are multiple modes available it would be nice to just select brushed or brushless hybrid instead of 1,2,3 etc.
A vertical layout instead of horizontal would help, and get rid of those skins!! It needs to be easier to see what is going on (contrast and colors), just a simple boxed window with buttons and drop downs would be nice. |
