My newest project
So I have a rustler here, and It is a fun truck, but It was just not made to hold large lipos and all the other fun stuff needed when fitting your own electronics. As you can probably tell from the links in my sig, The rustler looks a bit of a mess, but I plan to fix that with a custom chassis I am planning to build. so far, my plans are that I will keep the original shape of the rustler so that I can put the front and rear assemblies back on easily, but where the body shape is parallel(just infront of the rear shocktower) I will extend it an inch or 2. I am thinking of putting one novak battery tray in horizontally or 2 vertically , as well as creating a good mount for my reciever and MM. If possible I would also find some longer A arm kits as well. Any other ideas?

Sounds like a fun project, Ive been thinking about doing this as well.

Like this? LINKY FYI the battery tray is in the center of the chassis.
Edit- If you extend the chassis more than 1 inch, this body will fit better. See --> |

Seems that way. Are the Maxx/Sav bodies the same length? I bought that one because it was the only body that had the wheelbase listed for it at the time.
|
I assume they are the same length... I was on the hpi website, and the bodies said they fit savage, emaxx and tmaxx.

there is a mod you can do to use the rear a arms so that you can use them on the front so that your front is just as wide as the rear.
there's also a mod where you can install jato a arms so it will be even wider, but i think this looks funny, as your front will be wider than the rear. |
You can also use the FLM extended arms, which is probably the best way to go.

It is. So much so that it's been caged since it went completely wild the last time I let it out... AKA I've found the power limit for traction with the Speed Hawgs. It might be time for those Maxx slicks...

hey is this website legit? http://www.onlinemetals.com
I've found that a 2'x1'x1/8'' sheet of 6061-T6 aluminum for $27, but other places i know (mcmastercarr) sell it for nearly twice that price... Also would 6061 be a nice alloy for a chassis? |

yeah, about $40 total... But still cheaper than elsewhere. I'll try lowes before I buy though. Mabye I can go through my school and Rancocas Metals to see if I could get t at a wholesale price too... 6061 would be fine for a chassis?
|
OLM is the best! :yipi: Yes, 6061 is perfect for a chassis. Unless you wanted to splurge for 7075.
