Should you tape both ends and cover the holes or just the wired end? Thanks

Well the holes are bigger and are more numerous on the back, therefore the back is the only part i taped up (used decals so it would look cooler). I left the front holes un-taped for a little airflow, but i also use mike's heatsink which mostly covers the holes up anyway.

I taped both ends of my Medusa motors. If dirt or a small stone get in you could ruin your motor and fry your esc pretty quickly.

Both ends it is then. I am only going to be running on the black top but would rather be safe than sorry. I am waiting on mike to finish up the end covers! Thanks guys.

Just a VXL endbell cover. Mine is just wedged there alongside the front chassis brace. It doesnt clip on like the VXL motor because of lack of screws:no:, but I think with some small amounts of thermal paste it will be fine. On the front I just have a piece of thin lexan cut to size.

when i talked to jeff from medusa he said to go ahead and tape up all the holes if you feel you will be getting any dirt in the motor. the motor dosent actually flow any air internally anyways.

I've never seen the vxl solution before... Can you buy the end cover by itself?

...so in theory all the cooling we should be thinking about is EXTERNAL? ie Heatsinks with big prongs? I prefer prongs to splines :D

I like this v-cover i will get one and remove my alm tape from my medusa thanks for this great job

...yeah i have sinks on them but i am just surprised that Medusa says 'yeah go ahead and close up the holes'...

The Medusa has no way of pushing air through itself. Ideally if it were in a plane air would flow through it due to the propeller. So even with the ends open in a car/truck, the amount of cooling due to the holes would be minimal when not covered up.

yes the medusa motors dont flow air internally. i had mine on the bench with an incence smoker and the smoke didnt blow around at all. i didnt really rev it up since it was unloaded but gave it enough to know. just look through the holes and you will see very little if any daylight at the other end.

I guess thats where the fan unit for the rear of the motor comes into play- guessing its aimed at Heli motor applications, but...
