My mm is getting hot....I would like an opinion or 2

It has been thermal-ing after only 10 min....however, I am running in very soft sand w/paddle tires on rear and 2.2 Gladiators on the front.

start power.....med.
punch control..10%
timing............ 2
lvc..................3.2 on a 3s batt.

mm esc w/ccbec
motor 1509 TeknoNeu 3300kv

stock spur w/a 17 pinion

I am not getting excessive wheel spin due to the paddles on the rear...so I am thinking it is a gearing issue..opinions?

emaxxnitro 03.19.2009 07:56 PM

do you have a fan on it?

magman 03.19.2009 08:06 PM

No fan...I would like to run w/out if I can, but, I know they do help

azjc 03.19.2009 08:08 PM

IMO....you are thermalling because you are running in sand, it will put more stress on the motor due to the loss of traction

emaxxnitro 03.19.2009 08:11 PM

yeah the motor is maxing out.
a fan really helps the mm work with bigger motors. imo

Try increasing the punch control (less initial punch). More punch (i.e. less punch control) requires more initial current.

magman 03.19.2009 08:15 PM

Yeah....in sandy areas I should mount a fan to help w/temps. I like to run in sand pits behind work where there are 25' piles to climb and jump over. So, I can see that the sand w/ wheel spin will cause the prob.

What fans will mount right on...any ideas?

I would try running the same size tire all the way around. I bet your center diff and motor are getting a workout with the mismatched tires...

I would also drop down a few teeth on the pinion...

I left the Glads. on the front for better turning..but, obviously, it its making things worse. This weekend, I will drop a tooth or 2 and try again

I am also going to try a little thicker center diff fluid to see if that helps as well

what rc is this on? have you tried using rib tires for front? they are better than glads.
