Lost two motors yesterday at the races....
Was a sad day yesterday at the races, josh was letting joey drive his st-rr i built him during practice and when joey pulled it off the track when the cutoff set in we temped it and it was over 250  no good, we checked it out and the yellow motor wire had alot of resistance so i guessing it broke just inside the can....it was also the hottest wire , i ran fine all day usually at about 145-150 after 1o minutes of hard running on the track, when i mean hard i mean hard, i CHECKED OUT in every truggy heat, i was the only one on an 8 lap pace and in two of the quals i did lap everyone in 5 mins, this was a full field of truggies too, not just 5-6 ho hum racers. so i was having a great day, truck was dialed and everything. so the main rolls around and i decided not to run any practice laps because i wanted to make sure my pack didnt dump in the 15 minute race (i ususally get around 18 mins but i was being safe) so 12 mins into the race im on the lead lap in 2nd place 2 laps up on third (i got hacked a few times) then as im pulling onto the frotn stretch my cutoff setin.... i think WTF only 12 mins, when i got my truck in the pits about 30 seconds later i found why my battery had dumped, my motor was 231 degrees and my lipo was 125, so the motor had busted during the race and had drawn the hell out of my lipo, good thing i was running one of mike crazy powerful 5s2p packs or it prollly would have taken it too...because it never broke 100 degrees though all my heats....
So i guess it was a good day and a bad day, becasue i threw it down and put the electric out front in the field of nitro and gathered ALOT of talk and attention, but we had two casualities both 1515 2.5ds on 5s2p rcm lipos in truggies running the same gearing and programing...... guess its time to get them sent back and see if neu can slavage of them.... one was bought last july and was on its 3rd set of bearings and mine was bought in november and on its second set of bearings... |
Sorry for your loss! It sounds like they have lived some pretty good lives so far. What was the gearing for the ST-RR if you don't mind me asking. My brother is having temp issues with his ST-RR when he was using a 1515 3D and a Medusa 36-70-1600 on 6S. We are stumped on why so far.
BTW, I had just gotten back 2 Neu motors for service/repair and it took a little over 4 weeks back to my door. Return time is not too bad, I wish they would be a little more customer service oriented though. |
I hate when that happens!:whip: Sorry Ross for the motors....it does suck. Seems lately a lot of Neu motor bearings are failing...maybe it is time for Neu to look at a better quality bearing....just a thought

haha the bearings arent really that much of a problem, (wasnt the cause of failure for either of these, i regularly have my motors as well as my cars apart, so i stay on top of maintenace just as much as anyone can.
my state tax return came in saturday while we were at the races so i guess i can afford to pick me up a new neu so i can have it for our huge 4th july race.....while this one is getting fixed. |
