Petition for FLM diff cup
I emailed FLM today asking if they had any plans to make an aluminum sealable diff cup for the Slash. I pointed out that the stock one leaks like crazy if you use any kind of oil thinner than 10k, and the outdrives are rather wobbly.
They responded saying that they have considered it in the past, but were unsure of their popularity. They also said they would make them if they would sell. So, I figure I'd try to get a rough idea of who would be interested. Once I get enough "votes", I'll respond with a link to this thread showing the potential interest. And, since the Slash diff is basically the same thing as the Rusty, Pede, etc, it could be used there as well. Anyway, just vote/post if you'd seriously be interested. I don't know the price, but knowing FLM, it would be decent and high quality. |
Id seriously want 2 and know my neighbor would want 1.. 3 sold

my main issue with the slash diff is that the weight of it is supported by the output shafts, and not by the diff cup. alot of traxxas' designs are like this, and it causes the wobbling issue and premature wear. i would like to see a design more like an 1/8 diff, scaled down a bit, with the cup /case supported byy bearings. this would require the tranny case resigned to accept larger bearings, and a completely cusom diff, internals and outputs. not sure if flm would make that, but i would definately buy a handful of them. they already have the tranny case, so altering it to allow for larger bearings would not be too bad. making the cup with the gear on the outside, and finding suitable internals would be more work, and i am sure that they would have to be custom made...

Rc-m and swami-rc already have full metal diff cups for the slash etc. Redesigning these would probably be faster/cheaper than for FLM to make a whole new diff.
And you could also try MIP's ball diff if you want adjustability. Haven't seen any reviews on them yet. |

I would FOR SURE by one for my rusty.....no doubt. :yes: (especially if it had bearings in the out drives, but I would want it to fit in a stock tranny)

Well, judging by FLM's email response, I guess not. Besides, Mike usually only puts his rcm logo watermark on his parts.

i think as much as this is needed, better-hardened planetary gears are also needed. or something like an MIP racing diff but with a steel diff gear.
if i run anything more than 3S, i can turn them to dust in about 2 minutes if i'm running a tight slipper. Thankfully, a member had a very few sets of these gears made from a much stronger hardened steel that has been unflinchable on 6S on XL motors and even on the neu 1515 1Y, 2650, and 2200. why dosen't anyone mass produce these? i can't tell you how many people are always bit$%in about busting up these in the traxxas forums. i'm all for any trans mods. |
