First crawler recomendations...

Guys,

Thinking about getting a crawler to goof off with. I have no idea whats good and whats not. I know the Axial crawler is popular, but is is any good? Not looking for competition or anyhting, just something to drive around the living room or the yard or the pits at the track. Any recomendations for something that wont break the bank, but isnt a piece of junk either. Ive got lipos, servos, rx, and all the basic stuff like that so I, dont want a RTR. id rather spend the money on getting a little better kit and adding my electrics that I already have. Id probably need motors though. I dont think the mtoors I have would be the right choice for a crawler.

Thinking probably middle size crawler. The losi mini at the LHS just looks to small to do anything with, and I dont want a huge thing either. there isnt anything around that is big enought to justify the huge ones.

Is the ARTR Axial any good? How about the XTM crawler? Anthing else I should look at? They seem to be in the price range I'm thinking is reasonalble. $2-300 tops is what I'd be willing to spend.

the artr axial is a great setup. i bought one for a buddy and it performed very well out of the box. plus you can get all kinds of stuff for the axial. as it is the most popular. since you have most of the gear to finish it, it sounds like the best bet. something like a 55t motor on 3s lipo would be a good setup, or a decent outrunner if you want to go brushless.

Thanks Linc. That's what I was thinking. Anyone know anything about the new venom crawler? Any good? It seems to be worth a look anyway.

Edit: or the Losi 1/10?

jeff - wait for the losi for a rtr... the worm axles built in dig etc etc

if you want the best go for a berg setup..

Will the Losi have metric screws?.?.?.? If not I dont want it.
When is it due out?

I doubt it - the venom creeper is getting good reviews but hanging on trans a little.

you only like to do things once so i would go moa with a set of berg axles...

Normally i'd agree but this really feels like something that could get run a few times and then sit in the corner. I'd rather have $250 sitting there than $1000

Just checked out the losi. Looks ok. I might go that route. Although I'm hesitNt to buy anything losi after that mini LST POS I had.

Lito just picked up the AX10 for his kid, and he is looking at the Berg as well for himself. You might want to shoot him a PM for some advice.

I second what Linc said.

I picked up an axial kit on ebay around christmas that was all setup with a Novak Rooster esc, integy 55t motor, servo and integy shocks for about $250 and its an absolute blast to drive around the house and the batteries last forever on it with the 55t motor. Spent about 3 hours driving over a course we made out of empty beer bottles and cases....funny how the course kept getting longer and more difficult the longer we were at it.

I got the crawler for the same reasons you are thinking about and am more than happy with it, just picked up some airsoft ammo to fill the tires with the other day. I have heard that the ARTR kit is an even better starting point.

Yeah, the mini lst is a turd... Everything else losi I have owned has been top notch stuff, well designed and I will even overlook the std screws, that is how good the stuff is. I would like to get one of the new losi 10th scale crawlers, if it performs as good as it looks, I may have to break down and buy one! I will wait for the rccrawler guys to get some opinions together though...

Im new to crawling . I have a axial based crawler . I am also building a berg based crawler right now. From what i have read the berg based crawler are considered the best, because they are (MOA) motor on axel vechile's . They have a very low COG. But the axial crawler is a very very good crawler as well . AS for the losi the only thing i would say is it will be a new & un proven vechile, & we dont know how the durability is . .
