Team losi mini lst 2 ( mlst2 )
anyone have found a fix for the plastic diff spiders gears and side bevel ?
|
there's a fix on the beatyourtruck forums. cheap and easy. search for the optimus mod.
|
WOW! 18th scale owners found out how to put a shim on a diff! Wow...
heres a link to the "mod" - http://www.beatyourtruck.com/forum/s...ht=optimus+mod What might qualify this as a mod is that the shims are "spring washers" - http://www.mcmaster.com/#9712K58 the mlst2 has metal diff spur/pinion gears iirc so shimming the diffs should stop the problems. |
I tried everything to fix the diffs on the mlst1... Hopefully the mlst2 has better diffs stock, but I doubt it will ever be really able to stand up to even a mild bl setup...
Good luck, and post your results!!! |
this is the proer link which describes the mod: http://www.beatyourtruck.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=52059

imo, the vendetta line has good diffs and overall strong parts. That and the xtm rage are the 18th I recommend. Get the xtm if you want a mt and the vendetta if you want a st, buggy, or touring car. The xtm rage has a bulletproof stock drivetrain and the vendetta, after steel cvds and possibly ball diffs, is a solid car. I had a Neu in my vendetta st..

Any car you'll buy needs some kind of upgrading. I loved my MLST2, it handled really well off road and was real fun to drive.

Sell it and buy something that wasn't thrown together in 30 minutes by a bunch of money hungry apes. Seriously though... the MLST2 diff pinion and spur were solid if shimmed properly. The internal plastic spider gears hold up a little longer if you shim the diff together and make it feel like a 'limited slip'. Now you just have to fix: -The horrible steering -The center diff made of cheese -center transmission idler made of cheese -worthless stub axles, even the MIP ones bend when given a stern talking to. EDIT: Oh, and boil any plastic gears. |
Not to jack the thread, but I would recommend the xtm rage over the mlst. The only thing the mlst has on the rage is parts support. The xtm rage doesn't need anything out of the box. The parts are really strong and the drivetrain is really solid from the factory. Imagine a mini quake with all the bugs worked out.

thanks for all the info guys :great:

sell it. I spend 2 years trying to make those diffs stronger. With a mild lipo/bl setup (I am by no means one of those power freaks) the spiders wouldn't ever last a whole run.
Wait for the 1/16th scale e-revo :D |
the mlst2 diffs work great, mikey84's is holdong up well to his monster setup

anyone can provide me this info on the mini lst 2 for the online speed calculator ? :
Enter Front/Rear Differential Gear Ratio Enter Transmission Gear Ratio /// im using all stock diff gear and for the center diff I use a spool. |
iirc it is the pinion gear teeth over the spur gear teeth for the diffs.
|
Dun get the center ball diff. I had one MIP but it slipped so badly even when I had it tightened all the way. The mini-lst is simply too heavy for the ball diff. So I used the spring washers from the ball diff kit on the stock plastic diff (spring washer mod from beatyourtruck). And it did held up under the brute power of a 380S 5100KV brushless motor on 3S. I took out the center diff to check it and it looked as good as new even after 10 runs. Slipper spur tightened to the point where the front wheels raise up slighly under full throttle. The stock center diff with the spring washer mod is better in transferring power to the wheels as it does not slip like a ball diff.
