What's up w/ forums locking guests out of viewing threads? (WTF rant of the week)
 

I've noticed a lot of forums lately making guests sign in to view threads. (Not RCM thankfully.) This ranges from guests being totally locked out (such as truggyracers.com) to others just allowing a certain # of views before you have to login (BYT is like this iirc.)

That S is fraking lame.

I used to jump over to truggyracers (just for example...) every now and them for some info, but then they went to a closed forum system. Haven't been back since, and I even made an acct there forever ago. What, you think your forum is so awesome I'm going to create an acct and send you my email addy before I can even see if the forum is decent or not? I'm sure I'll find the answer somewhere else.

Some would say, "why not just create an acct?" Because I don't want to. I don't want to give you my email addy, have one more password, & one more thing to remember, esp if I'm using a "public" computer and don't want to have all my login cookies saved, esp for a forum I may visit 5x a year. I don't want to have one pswd for 40 diff forums either. I'll just go to a cool forum like RCM.

I really can't figure a compelling reason for a growing # of places to do this. Either they want to collect email addy's/user info, are elitists, stop web crawlers like google (why? IDK,) are anally retentive control freaks w/ paranoid delusions, or want to control some bandwidth. The last by mostly people not visiting their site and not clicking on the ads...:no:

I hate it when I am at work fixing something and some "genius customer" asks me if what I am doing works... Would I be doing it is it did not work??? WTF is wrong with these people? I just want to give them "the look" and ask if they really think I am out in the shop doing things wrong for fun??? Or maybe it looks like I have no idea what I am doing, maybe I should stop wearing the chicken suit to work...

In any case that pisses me off to no end. I think most people just need to stop and think about the verbal diarrhea that is about to squirt out...

My biggest rant is useless people who have no function in society except to drain resources. These people should be shot in the face and dumped into a big hole (not necessarily in that order).

My only big pet peeve is when people who are new to a forum try and suck up to the big dawgs. I made that mistake with linc when I first arrived here 2 years ago. IIRC we were arguing about if the velineon motors were made by feigao. I was shut out pretty quickly. The reason I thought that the TRX velineon motor wasnt made by feigao was because of how independant TRX is from other companies.

Damn, 2 years ago I had just signed up.... I started reading the forum in Feb of 07, and it took me till Aug to read it all. Yeah, suck ups are aggravating, and noobs need to keep their mouths shut most of the time, unless they have a valid question. My favorite are the lipo "experts"...they have owned 2 packs and somehow are enlightened by God to dish out battery advice. Not really an issue here, but there are plenty of them on NK... I have owned most of what is out there, but am always wary giving advice on batteries. Way too much variation to actually nail down a good lipo for every situation.

I do remember that thread TD, I will have to go back and read it again!

The thing that really grinds my gears is that when other people or groups of people(cough RCU) think that they are the best at everything they touch... Like the moron who was trying to tell me that his E-revo (brushed) would be able to smoke another moron's Brushless rc18 because his erevo runs more voltage... Even Better is the people on the traxxas forums who think they are god because the can plug in a BL motor and know what to do if It runs backwards.... then they think they are all knowing and all powerful.. Lastly (I am quilty of this on a few occasions) When people have to post a new thread every time they turn on there car! that annoys the hell out of me!

lol...that was the real point of the thread. Coming up on 3yrs and I barely got 1200 posts. I actually have a lot more useless information to pass on than that.



Seriously tho.. is there a way to password protect this thread so no one else can see it? (unless they forward me their email, SS#, maybe a paypal addy...)
