MMM V3 fan

I just put it in my Rustler and I notice the fan does not come on at start up anymore...... I ran it a total of about 3 times and everytime I watched for it as it is suppose to start up momentarily. It always did and now nothing... Any ideas?

Dead fan. Happens quite frequently. Every one of my MMM fans has died within a few runs. Pretty much useless. Thye used to send me replacements. Now they want you to buy a Fan and Case replacement or send the whole thing in to have it replaced. I just quit bothering replaceing them. Havent had an issues at all. You shouldnt either, Especially if you are running it in a rustler. Probably wouldnt ever need the fan. The MMM is like killing a fly with a sledgehammer in the Rustler.

The thing that bothers me is it is not right. For the money I paid for it and as new as it is to not work kind of pisses me off. I do not want to be without it for a month either to get it fixed.... Will they send me a new fan that I can install? If what is all involved in putting a new one on?

jhautz 03.27.2009 08:41 PM

Call them. See what they say. Changing the fan is no big deal if you have one. Just carfully poping the case open and unpluging the fan from the board and plugging in a new one. But the new one probably wont last any longer.

Just make sure you haven't gotten anything lodged in there; my V1's fan stopped spinning the other day and I couldn't see anything in there, but tipped the truck upside down and shook it a bit...and it started up. I've had about 10 runs on mine and have really beat on it, and the fan's still going strong.

Jeremy1976 03.28.2009 09:19 AM

Yeah there is nothing in it. I not even off road with it. It seems as if it tries to turn once in a while then nothing.

fatkidjoey 03.28.2009 03:14 PM

where do you get the fans ?

suicideneil 03.28.2009 04:14 PM

From castle- contact them. You will probably have to buy a new case and fan, or you might get lucky and they send you a fan as a one-off thing. A more durable fan (25x25mm) would be better- there are several threads on the subject if you search older threads in this section...

I think the warmest my ESC got with hard 30 minute run time was 78 degrees. Granted it is about 40 here outside too though. I have sent Castle a email and will see what they say. Being that it is new I would hope they would just send me out a fan. If that one pukes too down the road I will just deal with it.

i replace all my mmm fans with these

ive never killed one , the blades are smaller and dont get clogged as easy , i also remove the grill from the top.

Both of my MMMs fan died after just a few runs, in a dusty track. I am starting to understand why other ESC manufacturers designed their fans outside and can be replaced as easy as a fingersnap.

Jeremy1976 03.29.2009 11:30 AM

So does anyone have any input on how to remove the fan? I am not stupid when it comes to stuff like this but a good explanation before doing it is always very helpful. I am still waiting to hear from Castle.

Damn, I was looking at getting a new fan for my V1 pre-ordered MMM which is still going strong, but the pricing is insane. Well $12us for the fan/case is ok, but then the cheapest shipping to Australia is $26us.
Almost $40 for a fan :|. Lets not speculate about the exchange rate making it as expensive as a set of 2 new pre-glued truggy tires/wheels lol.

Anyone know any other fans that can be stuck in there?

No real reason to get an "original fan" from Castle, just go to your local electronic mart and get some 30*30*7mm fans rated at 5V.

I got a reply back from Castle. Sad people take advantage of a company as it sounds and truly ruin it for the rest like me and other good people.

Jeremy,

We are no longer allowed to send parts out. Too many people took advantage of a good thing and ruined it for everyone else. You'd have to send it in to us and we'd put a new one on no charge, and pay shipping back. Or you'd have to buy one of the repair kits here. http://www.castlecreations.com/produ...ment_case.html
