Need some help on a crt .5 conversion
Hey guys!
New to the forum and have a few questions Ok to start with I got a brand new crt .5, a brand new VXL brushless system, and a brand new spectrum MG servo for steering. The truck also came with the rc-monster motor mount. Everything is still NIB ...I don't think I did too bad considering everything is brand new and I paid 300 for it all ok now while I am not new to brushless I figure I would save myself some headache and ask the people who know and have done it. To complete this truck I need the adapter to convert a 5 mm bore pinion to 1/8 inch shaft (vxl) correct? I know I saw it on here somewhere.... Also I need a someone to recomend a pinion for this thing......should I start with what is stock for the nitro motor? 13 tooth I believe? Do I use the mod1 pinions? The pitch is kinda throwing me for a loop and I am not sure what to get. I planned on getting a variety of pinions but I need somewhere to start first. I have 3300 Mah 2 cells and 3300 Mah 3 cells I also have many 2200 Mah 3 cells I know the VXL is not the first and best choice but it's what I got so I would really like to use it (I tried using the search function but couldn't get desired results) If anyone is able to help I would much appreciate it! Thanks! |
Depending on the motor KV rating, I would stick with the small buggy wheel. Dunno about gearing. I don't think you are gonna wanna push those Lipos too hard. What are they rated for?
Yes mod 1 pinions. |
Here is the bore reducer you will need:
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...rod=RCMreducer The CRT.5 does use mod1 gears. Using this calculator (made by BrianG): http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_top_speed.html On a 14 tooth pinion on 3s lipo, you will be right under 40mph. You can play with the values though to see what set up/speed you like. |

I was not planning on changing the tires or wheels No worries about my lipos... Jnev yes that was the bore reducer I was talking about. I will order some of those and some Mod1 gears 14 tooth pinion was right about at what I was thinking so I will order 12 thru 16 so I have plenty available for tuning Most of my cars lead a pretty easy life being run only once or twice a week on the track so this one will probably be the same way I can't wait to get this one done and see how she performs Thanks for the quick response! told me exactly what I needed to know |
Snipin-willy, jnev
Thanks for the help I got my jammin running and it runs great! I ran it on 3 cell lipo and the temps were very manageable motor around 105 and esc slightly warmer at 120 I am using a 13 tooth pinion I am very happy with the performance and now it just needs to be tweaked to be running perfect Thanks again for the help! |
