Is a MOD1 a must for brushless setups??

I keep reading about people using these MOD 1 pinions and was wondering,is it a must for me to use one of these on my BL IGT? If so why can't I just get a regular pinion like the one the vehicle originally came with? Are there true benefits to running mod 1's ,and would I find these in LHS's ,or only here in the monster store?

Check your other post - No it is not mandatory to go to Mod1 - Mod 1 is a "meaty" gear and hence takes brushless power.

The EMAXX and EREVO use mod 0.8 which works perfectly well.

Not really. I run a 32P on my emaxx with no problem. It's more a result of most nitro cars are set up with MOD 1 from the factory, so getting a MOD 1 pinion to match makes sense.

Some people think so, some people think not.

I like to run Mod 1 gearing in the heavier Monster Trucks. This allows me to run a tighter slipper with no worries.

The Mod 1 are tougher. They hold up better under the abuse.

Doesnt the inferno gt have mod1 gears already?

My IGT came with 2spd and I have converted it to single. The person I bought the donor 7.5 chassis from for the conversion did not send me the pinion with it.It has a 46t metal spur on it already and I have no idea what gearing to start with lol

Its still mod1. Mod1 or Module 1.0 is only the pitch of the gear teeth.
Use BrianG's speed calculator to calculate your top speed.. 45 should be easily achievable with low heat...

Mod1 is the tooth size on the pinion. The pinion that came with your inferno gt originally was a clutch bell (not a pinion) and used the same Mod1 tooth size. Not sure how you would attach a clutch bell to an electric motor unless you came up with a custom motor mount for your inferno and use the Tekno clutch thing. The stock spur gears are Mod1 size and so is the metal spur you are using on the 1 speed setup, so yes you will want to buy a Mod1 pinion unless you want to try and figure out how to convert the gears on the car to something else. Doesnt make much sense to do that though. Much simpler to just get the proper pinion gear.

Yes, RC-Monster sells the Mod1 size pinon gears. There are other places to buy them as well, but we all know that getting them from RCM is the best way to go. :mdr: Gotta support the monster.

What pinion would you recommend I start with using the 46t spur?

brushlessboy16 03.31.2009 09:55 AM

what tires are you running

Gotta have more info to make a recomendation. Motor? Battery? Tires size?

http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_solver.html

you should be able to plug your info into this and figure out a good starting point for pinion size.

stock slicks but I know I will blow them apart lol. You have something in mind that I can run that'll withstand high speed and not break the bank? I hear allot about the empanimas? (sp)?
