Will the Castle 2200 be enough motor for a muggy?

Just found a great deal on a MMM combo and was wondering if you guys think it will be enough motor for a muggy? I plan to run 4 or 5s with the 2200 motor and gear for around 40mph. The muggy will have either 40 series bowties or a set of badlands, so no huge tires. Trying to keep my battery weight down a bit, most of my 6s packs are quite hefty. And I just got some nice enerland hardcase packs!

Should be powerful enough.

azjc 03.31.2009 11:43 AM

I would go with 5s, I think if you are gearing for 40 it would be fne

Ok, 5s may be a bit too much... I would need to go to an 11t pinion, and I do not think it will fit.. Or go up on the spur size, but that may cause fit issues as well.

Differential Ratio: 4.090909090909091
Transmission Ratio: 1
Other Ratio: 1
Spur Tooth Count: 46
Pinion Tooth Count: 11
Total Voltage: 18.5
Motor KV: 2200
Tire Diameter (inches): 5.75
Tire Ballooning (inches): 0
Motor Current Draw: 0
Motor coil Ω: 0
Spur/Pinion Ratio: 4.18 : 1
Total Ratio: 17.10744 : 1
Tire Circumference (inches): 18.06 inches (458.83 mm)
Total Motor Speed: 40700 RPM
Vehicle Speed: 40.7 mph (65.37 km/h)
Effective KV Value: 2200

4s with a 14t pinion looks just right to me:

Differential Ratio: 4.090909090909091
Transmission Ratio: 1
Other Ratio: 1
Spur Tooth Count: 46
Pinion Tooth Count: 14
Total Voltage: 14.8
Motor KV: 2200
Tire Diameter (inches): 5.75
Tire Ballooning (inches): 0
Motor Current Draw: 0
Motor coil Ω: 0
Spur/Pinion Ratio: 3.29 : 1
Total Ratio: 13.44156 : 1
Tire Circumference (inches): 18.06 inches (458.83 mm)
Total Motor Speed: 32560 RPM
Vehicle Speed: 41.44 mph (66.56 km/h)
Effective KV Value: 2200

Or maybe I should scrap the 2200 motor idea and just stick with my c50 10xl... That motor is 1624 kv, so on 6s with a 12t pinion (that should fit...):

Differential Ratio: 4.090909090909091
Transmission Ratio: 1
Other Ratio: 1
Spur Tooth Count: 46
Pinion Tooth Count: 12
Total Voltage: 22.2
Motor KV: 1624
Tire Diameter (inches): 5.75
Tire Ballooning (inches): 0
Motor Current Draw: 0
Motor coil Ω: 0
Spur/Pinion Ratio: 3.83 : 1
Total Ratio: 15.68182 : 1
Tire Circumference (inches): 18.06 inches (458.83 mm)
Total Motor Speed: 36052.8 RPM
Vehicle Speed: 39.33 mph (63.17 km/h)
Effective KV Value: 1624

Ideas?

Try both and let us know...

you could try 5s with the 10xl motor

BrianG 03.31.2009 12:08 PM

I'd wait for the 1800 motor - too bad we don't know when beta testing will be over. It will be longer for more torque/cooling and be a better match kv-wise for 5s with room to go to 6s for speed runs.

Kinda what I am thinking... Seems like a bad thing to pass up on a mmm combo for 240 shipped though...

And I do have a plett maxx for 4s usage, mainly why I bought the enerlad 2s hardcase lipos after I sold all of the trakpower packs I had. And I do need another MMM... Maybe I should buy the combo and sell the motor on ebay, would be a cheap MMM that way...

I am thinking about this, although I do not really have a big enough 5s pack. All I have in 5s is a polyrc 3700 25c pack, so good for around 92amps cont. That is fine for the slayer with the c50 15l, but not enough for something with big tires like the muggy...

Ok Chris, can you send me a 2200 castle motor to test....

Arct1k 03.31.2009 12:28 PM

How long do you need it for? I have a CC Neu Hpi 2200 not installed... Or would sell it...

Any chance of downloading and attaching this pic - I can't get photobucket at the office.

Looks like Sean beat me to the attachment... Does that work for you or do you want me to put it on photobucket?

As for the hpi motor... Pm me what you want for it... Or if you like I can test it in something.

I am using the CC MMM combo (2200kv) in my muggy, the muggy weighs in at 7.8 lbs with everything except lipos and wheels. My aluminum gmaxx weighs 7.8 with no wheels or lipos too and runs a MMM/2d. Keep the wheels and lipos as light as possible and it works great. Throw on 800g wheels and tires id up it to a bigger motor.

brushlessboy16 03.31.2009 03:07 PM

2200 should have no problem pushing a muggy :) now is it of the 6 wheeled variety?
