KB45 front endbell stripped, now what?

The screwed on front endbell of my kb45 is loose. When I ran it it just spun on the mount. (not the endbell, that was tight to the motor mount, the whole rest of the can and wires spun) The only thing that stopped it was those darn stiff tinned motor wires, which now looked like braided line.

So now what? The threads are toast, so I can't just loctite it and retighten it.

Jb weld and an overnight dry... You should have enough threads left to get it to start and hold while it dries.

Drill out and tap for M4 - Then use one of mikes end bell covers :) to get you 4 spangly new m3 holes

Will that hold the weight? That's a lot of motor hanging out there.

Not the screws in the endbell, the endbell in the can is stripped. So the threads of the endbell itself and the corresponding threads in the motor can are stripped. (Its a screwed on endbell)

a kb45 sized rcm heatsink/clamp would work

Time for an upgrade?

_paralyzed_ 04.03.2009 08:29 PM

but I've only used it once! only on 3s! frickin frick:diablo:

BL_RV0 04.03.2009 08:53 PM

Did the threads on the can or the endbell strip? Both?

JB Weld is quite gangsta, if you get it clean, and use the original formula jb, not the quik, it will work well. I have fixed all kinds of stuff with jb, especially for high heat it is about the best stuff out there.

Got some in me toolbox(fishing tackle box) I will try it. If it comes loose again that bee-yatch is getting tig welded

2 part epoxy also works well :)

Make sure it is high heat... JB is one of the few easy to find high temp epoxies...

I had a kd 9xl That the can was stipped on, you could pretty easily keep turning the endbell, jb weld did the trick on it

That makes me feel better. Is JB Weld the new duct tape?
