Looking for a Basher - Recommendation?
So ive been a AWD Sedan RC guy for YEARS!!!!
And it's time to get a MONSTER! haha I was real interested in a Rustler VXL but to tell you the truth, it just seems like TOO much power... (Gosh never thought id say that). I guess i feel that way because of all the videos i see... Wheelie's every where... Alot of my friends have RC18's, so ive also considered one of them. For under 300.00 i can get a RC18 and put in a brushless system. But then id need a smaller Lipo. which i dont want to buy. - I know i want electric/brushless... - I have a spare receiver to use my JR radio. - I have 4 3s Lipo batteries - I'm a AE & Traxxas fan boy... - Preferably 1/10 scale. What other RC's should i check out? Id like to keep the it around 300.00 (Roller/Motor/ESC) I dont mind going pre-owned either... Thanks, Tom. |
Get a used emaxx, 3905. Not going to get a 4wd brushless vehicle for under 300...
You may want to look at a pede vxl, more chassis clearance than a rusty and more fun too... |
I found a used stampede for 135.00, and i can pick up a VXL system for 150.00.
I already have the Lipo's.... What about the gear box on a regular electric stampede? Will that hold up to the brushless? Thanks.. |

I'd say e-maxx as well

Maybe a CRT.5? AWD and tough as nails, and has a 1/8th scale worthy drivetrain. Slightly smaller than what you want, but a heck of a lot more fun IMO and more durable. I have yet to drive my rustler after getting the .5. 2wd sucks lol.
If you want, the RCM store has an awesome .5 conversion kit that will bring it up to 1/10 size. Very nice as well. |

The Stampede seems to definitely be the answer. I'm thinking about bidding on this. http://cgi.ebay.com/Traxxas-Stampede...QQcmdZViewItem Or this roller http://cgi.ebay.com/TRAXXAS-STAMPEDE...QQcmdZViewItem MY main concern is the gearbox holding up to brushless power, so a VXL roller would be great. |
The CRT.5 is an easy conversion! Pm me if your interested, I have one that I'd work with you on, already converted, mamba max, and medusa motor

Ruslter
Slash Stampede RC10T4 B44 Aghh... Something about all of these interest me.. Truck, Monster or buggy?!?!?! I have no clue what i want. Id use it for... Dirt/off-road, small/med jumps and id like for it to be quick. |
Out of those, I'd get a Slash, but I'd probably get something like a Savage and convert it first...
|
When it comes to Monster trucks, buggies and regular trucks.. Whats the Pro/Con's of AWD and 2WD? Does 2WD have problems in dirt (traction?)
If i wanted something AWD Monster truck, I'm thinking the E-Maxx would be pretty sweet. I would be so tempted to run dual Brushless. HAHAHA, which would be $$$. And I dont really care for the E-Revo, so i dont think i need AWD. The slash looks great but how will it handle some bashing? Height seams a little low, does it have decent suspension travel? If i go brushless in a rustler, slash or stampede i think i'll get tired with the all the wheelies... |
I'd get 4wd for sure. The E-Revo is definitely the way to go for MTs...
|
Why did traxxas put a Mamba in the E-Revo (brushless) instead of there VXL system?
(i prefer the mamba but just curious) The more i check out the E-Revo, the more bad ass it becomes.. haha... But damn, it's pricey! |
Never say too much power. I remember getting my XL-5 and saying i was happy with it on 6 cell. Then a brushless system...then a 2s, then a 3s until i finally sold it. the power wears off really quick. The point that the truck no longer impresses you is the day that you should sell it.
|
They put a Monster Max in there cause a VXL just can't handle a heavy 4wd MT. Also why spend the money developing an esc when you can out source it, I'm sure Traxxas is getting a hell of a deal with the quantity they ordered. Yes the E-Revo is bad ass! Pretty durable, but not bullet proof, and will out handle a Maxx any day!
