Over discharging lipos
 

For those of you using lipos, how do you prevent your lipos from getting over discharged when out bashing around? I've always run my nimh's down untill I noticed the truck slowing down but from what I read it's really bad to discharge lipos below 3 volts. Is there a piece to the puzzle that I'm missing?

three little letters...LVC (low voltage cutoff). if will start beeping or a light will come on usually around 3.2 volts i think. a good one is the li-saver

the Li-saver actually pulses the motor when its time to stop, kind of like the Scorpion LVC. I think these are better than the light-up one cause you might not notice the light going out

That looks like a sweet little setup. I'm glad I asked, I'm getting ready to drop $250 on a set of 3s lipos and I'd hate to ruin them because I lost track of time. Looks like you just solder them in on the battery side of your deans connectors, right? Thanks for the info.

The esc side. if you soldered to the battery you would have a hard time removing the battery

I've actually located a LVC that in a sense is better than the Li-Saver:

The only problem with it is that it's a soft cutoff, but this is better for racing conditions than a hard-cutoff (where the throttle is cut). Usually a decrease in throttle is pretty noticable.

After driving with lipos whats the voltage? after i drive around with my nimh packs i stop when i truck moves just a bit faster than walking and the voltage is always around 8.7

Geezzz MM where do you find these off the wall places and products. I consider myself pretty good at searching the internet but you always amaze me. Have you used that LVC? You haven't steered me wrong yet so maybe I'll give'em a try they're 5 bucks cheaper to boot.

Let's just say that I am part of a rather large airplane battery community that gets all of the Lipo attention from manufacturers :).

The main reason why this LVC has caught my interest is because it's $5 cheaper than the Li-Saver, and I know the company that makes it is very good.

Looks like you did some work, that deal for the EOS 5i/LBA6 is $10 cheaper than buying separate.

Yeah, I've also found the airplane sites very informative when it comes to lipos. I'm cosidering trying my hand at helicopters this summer if I can swing it. Thanks again for your help.
