Want to buy RCM V3 Hybrids, what to use for center shafts?
Im currently using stockers for the centers and MIP 1665 cvd's front and rear, what are my options? I see that the RCM drive shaft coupler does not work with the new V3 versions so i cant use the stockers. I have also seen the splined units from MIP as well as the dogbone kit from Kershaw.
It says that they come with drive cups for a "dogbone" style center drive shaft, so im guessing the ones from kershaw will work, but i am unsure if the drive cups from the MIP units will fit on the diffs output shaft, anybody have an idea? I also want to know if the included drive cups will work with my MIP cvd's, as i have heard that some have issues popping out if the cups arent long enough, the MIP ones seem to be the right length. Thanks for any replies! |
I'm using Kershaw dog bones for the center. They fit in the pinion cups that come with the V3 diffs. I then installed the 6mm diff pins (supplied with the V3 diff kit) and installed the traxxas diff cups on them so that I could use my traxxas CVD's. Everything looks cool as far as mockup. I haven't drove the the truck yet, hopefully Friday/Saturday will be the first run. I would think your MIP's would be find if you install the 6mm diff pins.

so the drive cups included will be too short for use with my cvd's? if so is my only option the traxxas extended drive cups?
|
The cups that come installed on the diff were to short with my setup in the rear. I'm running RPM True trac for rear setup. I dont see anything wrong with running the traxxas cups.

Update on the center shafts, if you want to run the Kershaw Steel center shafts, you will need a e-revo rear shaft and a emaxx front shaft. The steel e-revo shaft form KD is about 3 mm to long and the front bulkheads will not go on. I'm also going with the summit plastic shafts to see if they hold up better for me then the e-revo plastic shafts.
|
I am looking at getting a custom set made to fit when I finish my mock up. I don't want the plastic center shafts.
|
well i bit the bullet and ordered the V3 kits as well as the KD center dog bone kit, this of course was after reading what doo posted that they are the incorrect length.... I also ordered 1 set of traxxas extended cups.
Even if the dogbone from KD is short i think i might be able to modify it to make it fit, only time will tell. After all of this im hopping that i will finally have a "bulletproof" drive train, the only thing left stock will be the tranny, i don't think i have seen many issues with the E-revo tranny though. Now i just need to wait for my MMM to get back from castle and i will be set! |
Just to clairify, the steel drive shafts (e-revo kit) the front is too LONG but the rear is perfect. You could just email KD and tell him you need a the steel front shaft out of his E-Maxx kit. I will NOT be running plastic center shafts. I will be testing plastic Summit
axle shafts, I have cvd's if the Summit's dont hold up to the Neu. |
My diffs and dogbones are on the way and im wondering what fluid i should run in them, i already ordered some traxxas 50K, but after reading the instructions it says to run 7-10K in the front and 3-5K in the rear. I am not racing, so track performance is not what im looking for, will the 50K drive well under bashing circumstances or should i get some lighter diff fluids??
Thanks! |
I have 30 minutes of full throttle on my V3 (6s Neu 1515 2.5d) geared for 50mph and no problems. The traxxas Summit axles llok the same as they did new. I'm only running Badlands for tires. So far so good. Shizzon I will check later to today to see what fluid I used, I cant remeber right at the moment what it was.
V3 is a very, very nice unit in my opinion. |
good to here doo540, i ended up picking up 7k for the rear and 10k for the front, ill see how that feels and go from there. after this i think im nearly done with the E-revo as far as upgrading goes, drivetrain should be stout at least.
|
I just checked I'm running 5 rear and 7 front, the same in my savage xl.
I did break a summit axle shaft, I hit a metal pole at 50 mph and it split the front summit. |
So what center driveshafts are people using with the V3 diffs. I have a pair of V3's sitting at the Post Office right now. Any part #'s? or anyway to use stock Trx shafts?
|
i ordered The Kershaw Designs center E-revo Dogbone kit
|
Shizzon reread post #8.
You can use the rear e-revo shaft from KD BUT you are going to need the 3905 (emaxx) front steel shaft. The e-revo front steel drive shaft is to long. Trust me I tried it. My v3 are doing great. I also have a e-revo that is running the Losi LST2 diffs and that is a strong setup too. I've been beating on the V3 and they are holding up. Shizzon I would think that Dan would exchange shafts for you if you email him. If not I will take that front steel shafts off your hands for you. |
