New Savage project - stretched tvps!
So I sold/traded my flm tranny forward chassis, and have a complete X just hanging around, never ran. I decided to pick up a flux motor mount and plate, and maybe make my own tvps...
Mocked it up using a stock X rear center driveshaft, and a lst1 wheel cvd for the front center driveshaft. This stretches the wheelbase to around 16". Gives enough room to mount the lipo in front of the tranny, inside the tvps. Plan to use some al servo mounts to mount the servo to the inside of the tvp on one side. That should give enough room to fit the lipo in there. Going to run a 1515 2d and a 5s 5000 25c lipo. Might run a quark 125 or a MMM. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...p/DSCF3241.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...p/DSCF3242.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...p/DSCF3243.jpg |
Looks good so far linc. I look forward to seeing it finished. :great:

Sweet. You are talking about the origional 'X' right? Not the 4.6? I'm curious to see how the stock X diffs hold up to brushless without the metal casing. You might want to see how much you can get a new Flux gear box for. Probably would be way better then locking the plastic gears in 2nd.

I have the flux center shaft/gear coming for the x tranny (only difference is that part, everything else in the tranny is identical.).
Looking at body choices the firehammer mt body is just about right, and at 70 bucks not too bad. I would have to stretch the tvps out a bit more, looks like using a lst1 wheel shaft both front and rear as the center drives will get the stretch needed. Just need to pick up a few small parts and I can cut the tvps out. Battery mounting looks pretty easy. I can use some of the thick delrin I have hanging around to make a battery try, and can also use that to tie the steering bellcranks to and mount the steering servo. The battery will have to sit slightly to one side but that will help offset the motor sitting on the other side. I will most likely mount the MMM as the flux mounts it. I may have to go bigger than the 1515 2d for this truck... Maybe the 1521 1y I have laying around... Plus I also have the flm towers and lst shock mounting kit. I doubt this will weigh much more than the flux, but I want some power. |
How about using the centre driveshafts from the LST XXL?

I thought the Flux had all metal gears? And a steel spur?
Or maybe it was just the spur.... |
Don't wus on us - We want to see a full diff or slipperential in there...

Looks nice. I'd like to do something like this myself.

Ideally, that is what my sav would look like... in reality, nowhere close.

So I priced some bodies... Cough cough....:surprised:
After that I decided to raid my new body box, turns out I have a ford 650 body for the GST/Genesis. Has a 15" wheelbase, which I can accomplish by using the savage XL driveshaft in front, and the stock X shaft in the rear. That still gives me enough room for the lipo in front of the tranny, and I can use some regular size tires without the truck looking silly. Plus the overall size reduction over my previous plan will help out the power system. So the current proposed setup will have similar specs to the savage xl, but will have a rear mounted tranny with the flux motor mount, and a forward mounted battery tray/servo mount. Not sure what tires to run, might get it all built and just go with what looks best. Power system will be a 1515 2d on 5s with a MMM, or possibly a quark 125b. I may still make a larger truck, but need to sell some stuff before I drop $70+ on a new body... |
Did some more measurements, and the rear center driveshaft from the Muggy will fit better than the xl driveshaft, so I ordered one of those. It is slightly shorter, and with that the truck wheelbase will be almost identical to the bodies wheelbase.
Just need to snipe a good deal on a set of flux tvps and I will be able to cut the new tvps. |
Progress?
