? on parallelling packs
I was just wondering if I parallell two smaller packs together (by the battery leads) would I still be able to use the balancing plug in the same way. I only ask because I found a place clearing out there polyquest packs and can get a really good deal on 3100mah packs but need a higher amp draw. Two used as a 6200mah pack would be nice though.
I assume I could balance them threw the balancing plug (with hyperion balancer and charger) individually and just take twice as long as a normal pack but just want to make sure. thanks |
You could charge them in parallel, but to balance them you need 2 balancers. However, you can't do this very well using the Hyperion balancer since it goes between the charger and the battery (differences in balance will throw things off). Even with 2 normal balancers (connect to taps only), this wouldn't be an efficient charging setup. Or, you could just charge both packs separately.
Another option would be to use 2 balancers and charge the packs in series. This would be a very good way to do it, as you could still use 2 Hyperion balancers (they'd be hooked up to a series connector). This would be an efficient charging setup, if your charger can charge as many cells in series as are in 2 of these Polyquest packs. |
dont want to buy another charger. how about if i just make a parallell adaptor to use when I want the higher mah? Then I could just charge the packs individually when they need to be balanced.

That would work perfectly fine.

thanks metalman. you always seem to have the answers. now I just have to figure out how many I want to pick up. I found a place that isnt going to carry polyquest anymore and can get them for $27 each so its kinda hard to pass up.

purehobbies has them listed for $32 a pack. I e-mailed him and was told that if I bought 4 or more he would sell for $27 a piece.
