Some driving/after pics:

I'm using 2s/4000mah lipos. Here is my charger: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3653/...2cc74fa67f.jpg I can charge all four batterys at same time, it takes about 25min (all four empty batterys to fully charged). |
I have some extra time, so i did "clean up" summit stock wiring:

Truck looks great, I bet your son really enjoys playing with it!
Pitty that the diff output broke, must be a material failure? Hope the replacement lasts longer! |
Some extra protection for RX & T-Lock module:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3658/...c1c907d58d.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3381/...fee270f838.jpg I did also put T-Lock wires "wrong way", so first lock is off, then only rear lock, then both locks. Now it is better to drift with only rear lock  Also i did put some silicone grease for RX-box O-ring and wire inlets, just for overprotection =) Change stock esc & motor connectors to 6mm bullets: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3546/...98dd378819.jpg I'm planing to mount Mamba Monster esc and some nice brushless motor. Only problem is, MMM is not waterproof, maybe not water resistant at any means? Anyway, here is my solution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sM3-CCXp7Dw (testing with some old esc) Get some nice box, make inlets for wires, fill that up with PURE silicone oil, remove cooling fan, sink MMM in that oil, close the box? So, box & oil is protecting esc from water, also it is transferring heat away... And some playing around: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkMurhJOaTM |

Crawling is also about fine. But more testing.... edit: Okay. First i did try that XL 2800kv motor with Mamba Max (also CC-BEC), at 4S 4000mah. I drive about 7min _very_ light bashing, then esc goes temp cutoff (newsflash?, not.) Today i did get little box (IP66) and make rugged prototype v0.00001: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3376/...f7cab878ac.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3643/...efdb64bd92.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3348/...31992a59e9.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3648/...17d2290279.jpg I make inlets, filled that box with PURE silicone oil, drop esc in and close the box. I drive about 15min, very hard bashing. The esc box was about hand warm after that, and no temp cutoff or anything else problems........ So, now i have fully waterPROOF brushless Summit. Now i need some nice sensored motor & esc for better crawling =) What you recommend? |
very nice:yes:
the dif output is a known materials faliur... |
So you submerged the MM in a silicone oil bath... Interesting. I guess it could pull the heat out better than just air cooling.
|
Yes.
Also box & oil gives protection for water. I did read this after first test: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicone_oil :) |
The silicone oil thing is a neat idea. I've seen a few car audio installs where a naked amp is suspended in a fish tank filled with that oil and it runs fine (and cool).
For that small of an area filled with oil, I still would find a way to mount a heatsink to the outside of the box, but in direct contact with the oil, so the heat has somewhere to go. |
Yes.
I test run this for some time, if all goes as plan, i do get bigger box, so i can make better inlets, place for heatsink (if there is need for that). My first plan was to use MMM, but Joe from CC did say that my beta testing voids warranty ( :whip: ), so i did use my old MM what is worked reliable looooong time. |
How is this project coming along?
|
any update on the silicon oil box? im thinking of doing the same
|
I am wondering how do you deal with the wet truck after running it in or around water?
It is a headache for my self. I have a summit but I will not intend to play it with water. Watertight electronics is not everything for the truck. Bearings, transmission and differentials are all not water-tight. Water with dirt will destroy them quickly and steel material in this truck is not stainless steel either. Thinking about after-run cleaning, I would rather give up some fun with water, and keep it dry and strong. |

No update, because i sell both summit's away and start company to importing and sell 1:5 cars :) But oil box idea works very well, must use good box and proper sealing for wires. |
