Savage X specific questions

Next, i have already stripped 3 spurs on the truck. I am going steel. stock gearing is 15/47. if i eventually wanted to get a LRP .28, i would want to gear up right? HPI sells up to a 20t clutch bell, so should i get a 47t steel gear? Or higher? How much am i going to have to gear the engine up.

Next - wheelie bars. Integy sells one - http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKWW9&P=7
it has aluminum arms, and two wheels. HPI also sells one for $2 more that is all plastic with 1 wheel.
Any reason i should stay away from Integy? if so, what would be better?

Last... shocks. How are the stock shocks? are the new flux shocks much better? should i save up for the LST conversion kit???

I will post any more questions in this thread. it will be a single thread for me to ask savage specific questions. ----Thanks, AD

EDIT: couple of nitro specific questions have been removed.

Most integy parts suck, but so does nitro...

I prefer the stock savvy wheely bar myself, it is flexible so I doubt you will break it easily. Plus you get different sized wheels to adjust how high it lets the truck go.

As for the buku pipe? You were complaining about the cost of a brushless conversion and you want to buy a 100 dollar pipe? That is the lipo right there...

Always Dreamin 04.19.2009 02:19 PM

I know i know. but after hearing about all i would need to buy last night... the thought of brushless made my wallet crindge. and I don't really want to do the HW/china setup. I have seen some buku pipes and LRP's do almost standstill backflips. Enough to throw it on it's lid. That is nothing against brushless power, and i know that. But $100 just to get the truck BL ready, then $240 motor/esc, then a $100 lipo. That's $440... into a truck that cost me $250. And even at that cost, I am only getting 15 maybe 20 minute runtimes.

Another question --- I need a screw kit. RC screwz sells them. They have a savage X kit, and a X 4.6. Since i am trying to get my truck to Flux specs, but even better, can i just buy a 4.6 kit? Only a couple screws are different, right?

:great: i couldn't have said it better myself.

dreamin, there are ways to cheaply convert a savage. my conversion will only have cost under $250 and it will still be more powerful than the flux. That is including batteries too.

Always Dreamin 04.19.2009 02:25 PM

If i am going to do a conversion, maybe i should do it with something else. i don't want to buy new Flux TVP's, $40 battery trays, etc. rather just have a simple setup. use mikes mounts. Anyone know what the stock savage ground clearance is? if I truggy isn't too much lower, that might work... But then again, i really do like the feel of driving a MT. see what this does to me!?

scarletboa 04.19.2009 03:23 PM

just buy a kershaw designs motor mount, a kb motor, a mystery 200a esc (proven at 120amps cont. without cooling), and i'm still working out a way to mount the batteries. as for batteries, get a pair of zippy 25c 5000mah lipos for $50 each.

LRP .28 -

Engine $180
Buku pipe $100
fuel $90
New brake disks $17
After run $3
Roll bar set $12
Nitro stop system $5
Fuel tank $13

Total: $420

That is what i would buy if i was going to get a LRP. not all stuff i need, but stuff i would buy. for $40 more i can get a BL setup... i think i am going with the BL setup... Now i just have to think on how i'm going to do it.

Also, i don't have money for 2.4ghz... i am running a stock traxxas TQ radio. would that glitch on me? my MM glitched a ton on me, and i would think the BL revo comes with it for a reason. but then again the flux doesn't... your thoughts?

Finnster 04.19.2009 10:56 PM

Are you sure about that Buku pipe? I've heard some good things, some that say its a BS waste of time. I have a Dynamite 053, $50 from Barnstomers ( RCM home track.) Great price and fast shipping. Check out is a bit fiddly tho. lol

I have it w/ my lrp .28 and it does well. No standing backflips, but I don't aggressively tune it. Does pull midrange wheelies tho. Nice motor and easy to tune.

Always Dreamin 04.20.2009 12:20 AM

I am actually considering 3 things. savage with lrp, savage conversion, OR buggy conversion.

Thanks for that Finnster. if i do stay nitro, i wont get a buku...

scarletboa 04.20.2009 03:13 AM

just convert to brushless. then, you will make up that $40 when you don't have to buy nitro fuel.

Always Dreamin 04.20.2009 06:04 PM

Those prices were factoring in 3, almost 4 gallons of fuel. But I agree, BL all the way.

Always Dreamin 04.22.2009 01:15 AM

Alright!

Tomorrow money for new tires, and 8xl will be shipping out. That is as far as I have gotten so far. I have been considering running an all metal 2 speed, if that would be strong enough? I saw a video of this guy doing it, it wheelied on dirt everytime it hit 2nd! I could get more top end too. Other then that, a new body is in order, along with a Savage wheelie bar. Not sure if I am going to upgrade to Flux specs or do a custom conversion (kershaw designs). Input?

lincpimp 04.22.2009 01:48 AM

Depending on the OD of the motor you have the flux mount may not be useable. The kershaw motor mount is ok, but I would prefer the flux battery trays over the kershaw ones.

Always Dreamin 04.22.2009 09:58 AM

Why not Kershaw mount with Flux trays?

If it will fit I see no reason to use them. Will you lock the tranny in 1st using the flux center shaft? Not sure if the mech brake linkage will fit with the flux trays.
