My MBX5T Conversion (in process)

Hi guys,
Picked up a Prospec roller the other week. So far, I just have the RCM motor mount and did the kyosho plastic spur (rather have the spur be the weak spot than something more serious).

The motor mount when on without a hitch, however the stock center diff mount screws are too long with Mike's mount? Like the mount isn't tapped deep enough. Has anyone else had this problem?

Future plans:
Dual battery trays (like brushlessboys and Arct1k's) since I have several pairs of 2s batteries from my erevo. Besides, I like the way it looks and I feel it will be really balanced.

Tekin RX8 2000KV combo. I like the sensored motor of the Novak at the track. Very predictable. I want it geared for around 37-40mph.

I will probably mount the rx behind the front shock tower and the ESC ontop of the center diff.

Here it is so far:

No, its Mike's Mugen mount.

Just got back from Rhode Island and I made a pit stop at RC Excitement in New Hampsire, they had a MMM 2200 combo staring right at me in the store. I almost walked out with it, because I "could have it now", rather than wait a few weeks for the Tekin.

Oh well.

so ur going to wait for the tekin?

Well, got my combo yesterday in the mail. The RX8 2000 combo (thanks Stormer for the super fast shippng!) Had to flip the front chassis brace to the other side of the truck to get the motor lined up right. No big deal. Right now, the ESC ziptie is place holder until I solder on the wires. I am waiting on my connectors and one more foot of 12gauge wire to make my series harness. I am also waiting on my long shank pinion.

The truck feels perfectly balanced. I guess I need to drive it to confirm.

According to Brian G's calc, I will be running 30K rpm's geared 46x17 for 39mph. We have a large track.

Hopefully I get my connectors and pinion today, so I can drive it on Saturday.

Oh, that's my erevo rx case. The servo and ESC wire is already attached running under the motor (not touching). Should be a real clean conversion when completely done.

That looks really nice. I really like the dual battery trays and ended up using twin battery trays as well... but mine are a little funky.

Two Questions:
1) What did you do to solve the 'screws too long for motor plate' issue? Just shorten the screws?

2) Which screws are you using to mount the motor onto the motor plate? My motor mount is in the mail and I've got the motor... I'm thinking of buying some m4 screws and washers.

1)I feel dumb answering this, but the motor plate was tapped deep enough, I was just tired and the screws went in at a slight angle... The next day, I re-looked at it and noticed they were not in perfectly straight, so I threaded them in straight and they are deep enough. I am no novice when it comes to wrenching, It was just late...

2)My combo came with the 4mm screws and washers. They threaded in perfect. It's the silver ones in the bag (not the real tiny ones, those are for mounting your ESC) The black ones are for the fan.

Ok, I must have brushed those aside. Did they come with two little washers? I think I know which ones you're referring to.

HOLY CRAP. The RX8 combo rules! So smooth.
After a month of building and waiting on parts, she is finally done. Gave it a shakedown after work (no track, just a gravel parking lot), and I "felt it move". After coming from the MT side of trucks my whole life, I must say a truggy is a whole different style of driving. I have driven a few of my buddies nitro tuggies at the track, but never felt comfortable driving someone else's vehicle. This Mugen is something else.

I purchased the Hotwire, and hunted down a PC (everyone I know are on Macs since we are all in the design profession), and dialed my timing back to 5. Upped my LVC to 3.2V per cell instead of the stock 3V (never be too cautious), and reversed my motor rotation. My brake strength was real strong first run, so I dialed it down on the ESC manually. The Hotwire is so simple and quick to customize, and manually on-site tuning is a piece of cake.

You can barely hear the truck. Sounds like a 1/10th scale stadium truck. All you hear is the wind over the body. Sounds like a jet!

Can't wait to see how it handles at the track.

Sorry for the rant.
I will get pics up tonight.

My set up:
Tekin RX8 2000kV combo
46x17 (geared for 39mph as per Brian G's speed calc)
Running on 4S

Here we go. Can't wait to hit the track this weekend. The system is so smooth...

I still need to make an ESC plate. That'll come in the weeks ahead.
