My humble FLM Stampede project
First off, let me say thank you to everyone here that helps out so much. This is a great site with a ton of great people. :mdr:It reminds my of the people at my other favorite site --> TDIclub.com.
So after selling my nitro truck about 2 years ago, I jumped in head first last year and bought a practically new extended FLM stampede on ebay. I immediately added the FLM tranny and a swami bar. It had the VXL brushless system and running 9.9v A123's made it run like a dog. When I say that I jumped in head first I mean that in 2 months I bought the stampede, a VXL rustler (for the kids of course:wink:), a Losi Speed-T, and a Ofna buggy roller. The stampede got put to the side while I worked on these other rc projects. Needless to say, I found that I didn’t have the time to play with rc like I wanted so I slowly started to sell off everything except the FLM stampede. I initially wanted it because it seemed to be recommended highly by everyone as a great basher and be pretty bullet proof with all the FLM parts. About a month ago, I got the truck out and decided to finish it. I never liked the integy piggyback shocks (to high) it came with so I put them on ebay and bought some Revo shocks for it. I also put the slash front body mount on so it sits nice and low now. I also added a MM system and a Medusa 3300V2. With a little help from the Linc and others on this site, I’m just about ready to finish it. At this point I can’t decide what wheels/tires to put on it. I had bought some 14mm adapters and some nice Maxx beadlock wheels for it, but as everyone warned me, they were just too big and I feared a lot of breakage. So they’ve been sold. I’ve decided to get some nice 2.2 or 2.8 wheels that will do double duty on the grass and road. I’ve spent countless hours looking for just the right set and am thinking about getting these http://losi.com/Products/Features.as...dId=LOSA27686B Anyway here are some pics of where I am so far. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...l/IMG_1517.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...l/IMG_1518.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...l/IMG_1519.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...l/IMG_1520.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...l/IMG_1521.jpg I kinda wish that I had initially invested in some lipo batts and charger instead of the A123s, but we’ll see how they work out. I plan to run two A123 6.6v batts in series for a total of 13.2v on the MM. Depending on how it runs (it’s pretty heavy right now), I may sell the A123s and get into lipos. Please disregard the current body on it. That's the one that came with it and I'm going to use it till it breaks but I plan to put something a little more unique on it. If anyone has any recommendations, I'd be happy to hear them. I probably should just sell it and get a FLUX or BL E-Revo. I've read many times on this forum that 2-wheel drive vehicles handle like garbage. |
Very nice. I'll finish my Carbon Fiber/FLM Hybrid one day lol.

seems like a hunk of junk i think u should just give it to me:whistle:

I've seen other companies makes upgrade parts for the Stampede, but FLM sure is the best.
Now go get that beauty dirty man . If not I have plenty of space for another shelf queen :intello:. |

I'm not sure if I want to put anymore money into this truck. I'm really amped to get a BL E-Revo. |
Looks awesome man. 4wd is definitely easier to drive, but 2wd is fun too. Lose the a123's and go lipo! Get that thing dirty!
|
Keep the A123 - they run great
|
The truck looks great! With 13.2v and that heavy truck I would add a cap and external bec to the mamba. If it runs hot after that add a fan. I had a mostly flm rusty (all but chassis) and it would thermal until I added cap and bec, and on hot summer days a fan.

The truck looks great! You might want to consider a center skid plate if you're going to run the battery down there.
|
Wow:gasp:. I'm surprised by all the responses. Thank you all very much.
I was thinking about a BEC and fan, but don't know what a cap is. I'm sure it is a capacitor, but what kind, where do I buy it, and how do I install it. I'm going to give the A123's a try for now. We'll see if they stick around. A skid plate is definitely a good idea. I thought I'd put the battery down there to keep the CG low, but your right that it needs some protection. Thanks, Pete |
By cap I did mean capacitor, sorry for being lazy and not typing it out. With a fan and bec you should not need it, with a bec and cap you should not need the fan. I ran bec, fan, and cap, but mine was in a 10lb revo conversion on 4s lipo.
Novak makes a cap that works great, or you can get one of the same spec as the novak for less from digikey.com |
