Losi 8ight T 2.0e VS Xray XT8 2009 spec
Hi everyone. Last time on track was clear message that e-revo no matter what part I will use is just not the real deal. So I've decided to get a truggy.
After some researching, reading, more reading and more researching, I've narrowed it down to those two. I have no experience with Team Losi as brand and I've got some with Team Xray. I love how my small 1:10 xray is build and every documentation is just awesome. Also how it handles was perfect. From what I was able to find, there is no major difference that will clearly point to one or another, they cost absolutely the same for me, parts are more expensive with xray, but they have everything in stock in local store 20min drive from my home... I wasn't able to find any threads or messages that points out problems with Xray, however there is one thread here that points out some of Losis, but nothing serious. Last point was conversion, if I will use conversion and slipperential from Mike, it seems to be just plug&play and I have to admit, I am quite bad in making anything non plug&play working... Losi is about the same, but full conversion is not avaiable for new 2.0 longer chassis model.. and yes, Losi looks with it's body on way better, I just love how it looks. I am slight favorit of xray and I am hoping to get some info to point me either one or another way, I would really appreciate it. (there is some time, Mike is out of stock for xray mounts so I still have time to decide :) cheers |
I own an XB8EC (Xray) and a Losi truggy. Actually I have owned quite a few and there has been nothing in my opinion that can compare to the quality of Xray. Sure they cost a bit more but worth every penny.

I think for a new truggy the MBX-6T or the ZO1-T gets my vote
The losi is fast, but its sooooo damn ugly! And its a losi... And the Xray still hasnt gotten updated to 808 spec (the front end) But its a nice truggy for sure! Xray is nice stuff |
Well guys, thanks for suggestions, from today I am proud owner of slightly used XT8, considering around 300$ price including 100$ futaba servo, I am quite happy and will post conversion pictures as soon as Mike will have motor mount in stock again ;)

Did you get the '09 spec? If so, what do you think so far?

on track, truggy seems to be way lighter, I run out few battery packs, destroyed one (probably 3V cutoff per cell is too low with rx8 combo) and I am really really impressed by it. However when other xray guys saw me, they told me to get at last big bore shocks from 2009 because they work really great. but comparsion to other truggy is pretty hard, next saturday there is race so I can say more.. now I just try to resist not to buy fresh new 2009 spec :) |
Cool, thanks for the info. I just bought an updated '08 XT8 to '09 spec. Has everything updated as far as chassis, 0 offset wheels and a couple other things. Can't wait to get it. I never should have sold my old XT8, just should have updated the chassis. Xrays are awesome.
Let me know your thoughts after the race tomorrow. |
The 09' Spec XT8 is flat out awesome IMO. It didn't look like a huge change from the old XT8, but it handles way different. I had the original XT8 and loved it. Absolutely the most durable truck Ive ever owned. I sold it last fall and bought a Associated truggy cuz I kept getting beat by them and I drove my buddy's and really like the way it handled. I loved the RC8T for a while, but after a couple months it started to get to me cuz it broke way to easy for me. I might have been just spoiled by the xray toughness. So long story short... I bought the 09' spec XT8 and it is world different than the old XT8 on the track. It is just a s stable as the old one, but it turns even better than the RC8t and I didn't think that was possible because the RC8T handled great.
A good friend has the 8t 2.0 and he really like it too. Its a great handleing truggy as well. The only thing I dont like about the Losi is I feel like everyone and their brother has one. The Xrays seem to hold their value better too. I always see them going for good prices. I vote Xray. BTW Sower, you are gonna like the XT8'09. |
Your story about going to the RC8T sounds like me going to my current 8T 2.0. It's a nice truggy, but I really miss my XT8 build quality. And not to mention the standard and metric screws driving me crazy. I feel like it's just so much more work to convert "properly" than my XT8 was. Just seems like something is always rubbing or needing fine tuning. My XT8 was just so clean.
I'm really looking forward to it. It's coming with King Heads hub extensions as well as aluminum knuckles and rear uprights. A couple other things as well - can't wait. |
1 very important upgrade for steering is the front upper arms changed to the link style rather than the wishbone shaped original upper arms. you need the carbon front tower from the 09 and the turnbuckles to do the conversion. Its a key upgrade to get the better handling of the 09. It loosens up the front end. if it doesn't have that done, I would look into doing it.

But honestly, the only time I didn't finish a race so far with it was because a nut fell off. I haven't broken anything on it yet. Not a thing. And they last forever with very little wear, so even though parts aren't always cheap, you don't have to buy many. This is the instruction supplement sheet for the '09 spec. It shows all of the updated parts for the XT8 and the assembly of the front end with the new parts. You need the front tower, and the turnbuckle and the turnbuckle ends that make the new upper front arms. It has the part numbers listed on the sheet. http://www.teamxray.com/teamxray/sho...p?file_id=5656 To build the turnbuckles it looks like you would need: 353130 353150 353160 353170 302268 and then the front shock tower Once you have the longer chassis that it sounds like you already have, the only other major thing is the new shocks which you probably already have too. Most of the other upgrades were just to make it lighter and lighten the drive train for better acceleration which isn't that big of a deal with brushless power. Not sure, but I did see a while back someone parting a few of these new kits out on ebay. you might keep your eyes open for that and snag the parts there. Probably a little cheaper if your not in a hurry. |
I'm running the XT8 also (I bought sower's previous one) and I LOVE it. I bash it really hard, it handles perfect, and it's so so durable. Since I've got it I never ran my revo or buggy (both nitro) again. I might upgrade to 2009 spec one day, but for now it does everything I want. You can NOT go wrong with xray. And the conversion is very clean.

I'm really glad to hear you like it - that thing was my baby. It has a few things I've never seen on anything else. |
