I'm puzzled
I had a little mishap with my buggy system a couple of weeks back. I let the smoke out of my MMM :whip:. My setup was :
1) MMM 2) Neu 1512 2650KV 3) Polyquest 4S 6000mah 25C Lipo 4) HN X1 CR 5) 13/48 So, did a little revamp thinking that it will be better : 1) MMM 2) Neu 1512 2000KV 3) Polyquest 4S 6000mah 25C Lipo (tried 5S 5000mah but uncontrollable) 4) HN X1 CR 5) 14/48 Well, after a 10 minute heat under the hot sun yesterday : 1) Esc temp. - 50+ deg C (low fifties) 2) Motor - 99 deg C ! 3) Battery - 51 Deg C ! I was getting lower temps in the setup (especially the motor) I smoked. I'm kind of puzzled. I thought I can get better temperature using a suppposedly milder setup but apparently not. I want lower temps for the battery & motor. What should I change ? I am thinking perhaps I should revert back to 13T. What do u think ? My track : http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...39/fbright.jpg Track right http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...g39/FBleft.jpg Track left http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/fbcenter.jpg Track center The straight is in front of the drivers' stand & obscured. Usually if the electronics are cool, except for the motor, you are undergeared. With a 2000KV motor, I would think you need around a 16t pinion. It is possible that the motor shorted somehow though. I would test different gearing options in a park if possible, rather than on the track. It is much easier to monitor temps since you're not on a drivers stand. Just an idea...

Strange that you're experiencing those kind of temps! My buggy runs the same (but older) motor on 4s 4900mah through a V1 MMM and 18/44 gearing (diffs are 11/38). Top speed is about 45mph, and the motor typically doesn't break 160 deg. F, the battery stays under 100 deg. F, and the fan-less MMM heats up to about 120 deg.
Your setup probably isn't pushing more than about 36mph, which makes me wonder if there is any binding in your drivetrain, or like Josh suggested, a short in the motor. |
Get a higher and a lower pinion. Then test again. I would say undergeared, as long as the truck rolls smooth.
