Broken motor shaft
Anyone broke a shaft off of a 36-80 Meddusa before? Wondering what would have caused this to happen. Am running it on 6s (it's a 1600kv). Just wondering if I had it set up wrong somehow or just one of those things that could happen. New to brushless.

Hey linc,
Seems like whenever I screw up you are there to the rescue. I will get some pics of the final set-up tomorrow for you to see and show what broke. Sent an email to Medusa to see if they are going to cover the damage. Really want to make this work now that I had it running. One thing I can't believe is the steel spur had 3 teeth snapped right off of it. |

I do what I can to help. I honestly have very few gear related issues. I guess I am lucky, or have some idea what I am doing (mainly the 1st part!). |
I heard a rumor that medusa delayed sales of the 80mm about the time of release due to some rotors coming apart. :gasp: Of course, my sources are highly trustworthy. :oh:

Don't think it was a binding problem. Just replaced both diffs as it blew one on first try. Took them apart again last night after the shaft broke and all is good. Can't say for sure if something got caught in the gears. Was only running around in the yard on grass. I set the mesh the same as I do for my nitro's. Has a little bit of play between the gears but maybe was a little tight?
What's better to use as a spur? Steel or plastic. I chewed a stock spur within seconds, that's why I went to the steel one. Just got a response from Medusa. They said they will replace the motor free of charge. |
Nice one Medusa - but given that teeth stripped / chipped off something very wrong - I would agree either foreign object or motor moved...
Stick with steel |
Steel it is then. Chances are that yes the motor mount shifted a bit. I guess will just have to wait another month for the motor to get returned and try again on this.

Here's a link to my other post about this truck. Placed pics of the truck in there and how it is set-up.
