cogging hobbywing 150A
Hello I have just put the esc in my e-maxx with a neu 1515 2.5d on 5s geared for 42mph.... But with the truck is runing in very slow speed, about 1mph-2mph its do cogging..... when the truck go more fast, about 5mph it doesn't have cogging..... What is causing the cogging?
The wires have good solder......... my esc program is: Running mode: Forward/reverse with brake drag brake:0 cut off: 3.2v Star mode(punch): level 3 max brake force: 100% Max reverse force:25% neutral range: 9 normal Timing: 11.25 Over heat protection: Eneable Motor rotation: Counter Clockwise Lipo cells: 5 |
Are you sure it is cogging? I know that at low speeds, these ESCs do do a sort of lurching behavior.
|
I am not sure.
the truck at low speed run a meter and do a little stop, and continue running..... |
Yeah, that's what I thought. Near the bottom of the review I posted for the 80A version, there is a link for a video. It's kinda blurry, but you can definitely hear the lurching which I suspect is what you're seeing. Generally, true cogging is where the motor doesn't actually turn a complete revolution, but sits there quickly oscillating back and forth (and pulls a lot of ESC-killing current while doing so).

regards and thank you |
The only way I know to reduce it would be to go above 2mph.
I believe that's just the result of the firmware programming and there is no way to reduce/eliminate it except to go a tad faster. Looks like HW needs to tweak their starting algorithm a little. But really, how many people get BL systems to go slow (other than crawlers of course)? If we wanted that, we'd stick with brushed motors. |
ok, THAK YOU BRIANG, I think that HW is a very good.......... but not for crawling........
And the last question, is good my esc program? |
No problem!
The programming is easy once you know how to do it. Somewhere in that thread I linked above, there is a post that more clearly explains how to program it. The manual isn't totally clear on how to advance to the various settings. One word of caution; IIRC, changing the punch to 0 could FRY the esc. So I wouldn't touch that setting... |
Hello I have just run my truck about 40minutes and it run very well. The esc run well and finish 100ºf, And the neu 1515 2.5d runing always between 131-140ºf.

What about gearing down a little bit? Wouldnt that help out?
|
Gearing down will just slightly reduce the point where the surging behavior stops.
