Hyper ST Pro Conversion
I have decided that I want to convert a HoBoa Hyper ST Pro as my next RC since my RC18T FT is nearing completion. It's going to take a long time to do this project considering I won't be able to get a job until September. A Bl/LiPo truggy has been my dream RC since I got into the hobby and I'm going to build one. I've done a lot of reading about the Hyper ST Pro and from what I have read it "handles like a buggy" and "is as durable if not more durable than a Savage". That makes it seam like the perfect Truggy for me. The $330 pricetag is also a huge plus.
My list so far: Hyper ST Pro Kit - $350 w/ shipping Zippy Flightmax 5S 5000mah 30C - $100 KD36-74-09XL 1900kv - $30 MG996R Metal Gear Digital Torque Servo 210oz - $30 Lutach LT 6S 150A ESC or Castle Creations Mamba Monster Max v3 Does that seam like a good list minus the motor. I'm just thinking about that motor because it's only $30 and would hopefully last long enough for me to save up and get a CC Neu 2200kv. As for the Motor Mount and Battery Tray I was thinking about making those myself. The motor mount wouldn't be that hard from what I've seen, and the battery tray would be easy if I used some lexan. I just don't want to spend $45 on the motor mount if I could make one that would work for under $10 and same goes for the battery tray. |
Good choises, but id change that motor, i had one in my ST Pro and it run hot, where my Medusa runs warm.
btw. there is few Hyper ST converted that can be found here under Truggy forum, including mine. |
try a KB45-10L motor. it is perfect for 5s and has about the same output of a cc/neu. the only downsides are you have to grind the shaft or bore out your pinions for it and you will need a custom mount.

My vote goes to a nicer setup. it is going to take you long enough just to get a job, and by that time the bux will be rolling in (hopefully). Save up for a mmm IMO.
by then it will have been worth the wait. Hopefully Ian will chime in. his truggy currently has 4+ inches of ground clearance with a ton of pre-load. good luck. |
I'm not worried about the motor running hot. It's going to be temporary until I buy a CC Neu.
AD - I don't see the point in getting the MMM ESC v3. The ESC's Lutach makes are great and seam more reliable than the MMM. Plus I might spend the extra $30 and get the 12S version just in case I want to go up in the voltage... |
Good choice on the HST pro. it's a great truck, but on the heavy side. With a 6s lipo mine weighs in at 12lb 5oz. It is extremely durable, only thing I've broken is a front body mount. IMO get the 10s lutach esc or the mmm. It's not worth the extra size of the esc unless you're going HV. If you do go HV, pick up some RCM 2500 5s packs and run them in series for 10s 2500mah, and get a neu 1515 2y.
|
Could I get the 10S ESC and run it on 5S with the HobbyCity motor for a while then a CC Neu? I'm just a little worried about getting a MMM because I've heard of a few people frying them for no apparent reason. (Even the v3 ones)
|
You could, but it is better to do it right the first time. Although, if it's going to take you a year to get the components together, get something cheap to throw in there.
|
I'm going to buy what I can over the summer and once I get a job (September because I'll be 16) then I'll be able to get the more expensive stuff. I'm sure that the CC 2200kv on 5S will be more than enough for me... Since I'm only going to go up to 5s should I just get the MMM combo?
|
Yeah. The MMM combo will be great on 5s
|
I think I'm going to get a MMM and use the HobbyCity motor then after that dies I'll get a Traxxas CC Neu from eBay for around $125.
|
Sounds good to me. it will cost more in the long run, but you'll be able to run it.
|
Have you seen this combo from HC? I'm interested in it myself. Its half the price of the mmm.

Yea but that motor is too high of KV for 5S. I have a thread in the Brushkess section asking about a HV set up for a Hyper. ST
|
I'v ordered one anyway, it should be here in a coupla days. I reckon the esc will survive the test run even if the motor dos'nt. I'll get some pics and vids as i convert a ST Pro truggy and post em here so we can all share my fun or failure. I have the mmm v3 with 2200kv in the Erevo so its there for a backup.
