Brushless MGT
Hey guys, I have a MGT 8.0 that I made a Lexan motor mount for. I had the 1515 1y and the MMM, 6s 5000mah, and stock spur/20t pinion. Lasted me a good 8 minutes before my motor burned and my bevel gears shredded. Since then (a few months) it's just been sitting in my garage. I know there are a handful of people who even considered to make a MGT brushless, me being one of them. Looking to put a 1521 1.5d and keep the 6s and MMM. Wondering if the 1521 would be overkill? I dont think the 1515 was enough to push a 15lb+ truck with 40 series tires. Also need some insight on installing a CD and losing the tranny all together. Would this even be worth the trouble or should I scrap the project and get a Muggy maybe? I'm a little attached to the sucker as it was my 1st 1/8th and I like the layout and simplicity of it.

well, if you are making a custom motor mount, you should look into getting a kb45-8xl motor. they are MASSIVE. they make about 30-40% more power than a neu 1515 series. the 1515 series motors are 40x75mm while the kb45 xl motors are 45x77mm. i got my kb45-8xl used from a guy who was running it in a 15lb+ mgt with all aluminum. he said the l-sized kb motors are ok in mgts as long as you gear low, but the xl length motors are perfect.

a 1521 would work well, and it should bolt into your existing mount. do you know what speed you were geared for with the 1515? overgearing may well have been your problem

Agree.
I agree with Harold. The 1521 should work ok for your truck. You really need to gear low for a first run to see how it heats up, and then gear up from there. If you want to try the 1527 that would give you some reserve power and keep your heat down some. Good luck with that.

gearing for 55 is why you burned the motor. thats way too fast, 40 is about tops for a monster truck, unless you have a huge motor and like 12s. Smaller tires will help. A medusa 80mm motor might be a good option, 6mm less in diameter than a neu. The kb45 would be even worse. Also, you could change just the input shaft on the tranny to the 4.6 input shaft and run the old style slipper (which i've used for brushless and has worked)
otherwise, a cd would be awesome and open up gearing options |

applications, and would easily be adapted to the MGT. here is the best pic I have of his e-maxx cd/motor mount in my e-maxx http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/l..._/white011.jpg |
Bad boy.
Hey now your just showing off Harold. Mike mentioned that he was going to produce some of those E-Maxx center diff mounts and I am still waiting on them. We all know he has been pretty busy getting things in order for the Slipperential, but we really need those center diff mounts so we can put it to use.
Hey Harold any progress on the CyberMaxx project? You should be getting back into the swing of things by now. |
