A Little Battery Comparison (There is really no comparison)!

With my experience lately i decided to do a little write up on the Maxamps and my PolyRC 30c batteries and the experiences i've had so far. To start off i am running a RC8 buggy with mike's conversion, RCPD batt tray, Mamba Monster on 6s PolyRC 3200mah 30c pack and a Maxamps 3000 and 4000 mah 6s packs. There is a very noticeable difference when driving the buggy on each battery pack. I run on a pretty slick dirt track with no jumps mostly for the late models, but works well for everthing else too. There is a noticeable lag in accelleration when running with the Maxamps and the top speed is also lower (geared for around 40-42 mph 14/44 gearing) so not extremely fast by no means. After a balls-to-the-wall run of about 20-25 minutes, the motor temps at around 115-120 degrees, the esc 90-100 degrees and battery is about the same, ambeint temps around 85 degrees. The Maxamps poof like crazy, but no smoke and i am able to get them to recharge on low amps, but none the less they poof every single time and not just a little, like two or three cells at the same time! Oh yeah those prevously mentioned runtimes are with the Maxamps 4000 and PolyRC 3200, Maxamps is on the low end of that runtime and the PolyRC is on the highside (3200 mah Poly lasts the same or longer runtime compared with the 4000 Max) the Maxamps 3000 gets like 8-9minutes of runtime and u can only charge it at like 0.3 amps compared with the Poly's 3.2 amp charge rate. The PolyRC has NO such problems and provides far superior accelleration, top speed, and runtime all while barely rising above ambient temperatures Thanks for Reading:rules:, Jayson

Given your poly rc batter temps, your system is not drawing very close to the 90amps that they are rated for. I have the same 3200 30c cells in 5s config from flightpower and they do get get up to 115 or so when asked to deliver close to the rated output.

So that just indicates that you are pulling less than 90amps, but I am sure it is more than 45, which is about all the 3000 maxamps are good for. The 4000 cells should do 60-65amps, so 75-80amps sounds about right with your temps are runtime experience. The maxamps cells are certainly not the best available, and are way too pricey for what you get.

Well the Polyrc does see temp spikes of around 120 or so but cools back down, this is usually when the fan on the mmm comes on temporly or on a long track.

Grab some FlightPower's or Zippy packs to try out as well.
